@mshoagie: My mom had a hard time finding a dress too. What was w/ all the strapless tight stuff on models younger than me?!
Siri has some real MOB's on their webpage. Their stuff is on the spendy side, but they are made locally, made well, and nearly all of their stuff is silk. The shantungs and dupionis have a nice stiffness that is friendly to squish. They have lots of portrait collared jacket and long-sleeve styles that also made my mom more comfortable.

We are SO THERE with you. I showed my mom some of the MOB dresses on websites and she just shook her head... how is she supposed to have any idea what they will look like on an actual middle-aged body?
Here's one website for a place in Toronto that uses "real" women in their site, so she can at least get a feel for shapes and silhouettes. I can't for the life of me remember the name of the place where my mom got hers, I remember they had a great website. I'll put my thinking cap on for you...

I totally agree! I think it's ridiculous the models they use. I mean really, unless they popped you out at 13 and you're getting married at 16, they will never be that young. Here's my mom:

Hopefully this picture isn't too big. My daughter got married 2/26/11 and we don't have all the pro pictures back yet, but here is a candid shot of my dress. Not the best picture, but I am 48 years old and wear a size 12. This is my dress by Jade. Underneath is the link to the dress on the skinny model.

@brandylynnp: Absolutely! My mom has fantastic legs so we wanted to show them off :) The top was gorgeous, it had lots of little beads on it. You can sort of tell in the photo. My mom is 5' nothing, so on a taller woman this may end up being a touch bit shorter, LOL!
@brandylynnp: Here's my MIL too. Same sort of style, but a bit more flair with the collar.
Btw, I'm loving all these photos of happy moms!!! They all look gorgeous!

@tranquility: I sort of don't blame her. MOB dresses cost a bloody fortune!!! I was shocked when I went shopping with my mom!!! I think I was more traumatized about the price of her dress than my own!
My mom just got her dress at a funny little boutique. Don't think you're stuck with things labeled MOB! There's lots of stuff out there.

Hi Ladies,
I am sick and tired of seeing thin 20 to 30 somethings wearing Mother of the Bride Dresses in ads. My Mom is 60 and the perfect mom-size...has some squishyness to her. She is a little hesitant to go dress shopping b/c anytime she looks online it's a young, thing model. I'd love to show her some real mom's in suits, casual dresses and formal dresses. Thank you for your help!
