So our wedding date is August 6, 2011. I am wanting to use as many real flowers as possible – they’re prettier and smell good and fake flowers to me.. well.. I just don’t want paper and fabric flowers at my one and only wedding, where I could use real, pretty, bloomed, REAL living flowers. My future mother-in-law is like adamant that I use fake flowers because of many undaunting reasons that I just don’t mind. But anyways, any suggestions? What is more popular? Real or fake flowers? I think fake flowers are more appropriate for like a winter wedding. But I’m getting married in the middle of the summer heat of August, lol, and want real flowers! Can’t I order real flowers and have them delivered that day to ensure freshness? Any and all suggestions, and other brides, please let me know what type of flower (real/fake and what type) you are using for your big day!
I am thinking of using tiger lillies and roses? Our colors are key-lime green and watermelon pink. Feedback please! Thank you and congrats to all!!!! Almost 4 months until August!!!

Congratulations, it’s getting close! I started out thinking I wanted to use real flowers. Then, I started thinking about the cost, what could go wrong (florist doing it wrong, not showing up, etc.) and the flowers wilting, the list continues. Anyway, I found this awesome bouquet on etsy.com and decided to have her make everything for my wedding party. They’re silk flowers so they will look real and then I can keep them! Here is a pic (it’s gigantic, sorry).

@jen24au: What etsy seller did you go through? Would you mind sending me a link?

@jen24au: that bouqet is gorgeous!! I like the silk wrapping on the bottom. so clean and neat looking. not to be nosey, but i really have absolutely no idea if something like that would cost $40 or $400 or $4,000, do you mind to give me a price range on what I should expect?

@HollyJade8611: If you want to use real flowers, definitely go visit a local florist or two (see what the flowers in their display cases look like). It’s always a good idea to work with someone local when dealing with wedding flowers simply because you can get a firsthand look at what they actually have–when you look for a florist online, they only put up the best images of their flowers.
Plus, local florists have tried out several different flower wholesalers and usually get very high quality flowers. I know this because I myself am a florist!

I could only have real
red red roses, I made all my floral arrangements, bought about 300 roses wholesale from my local grocer for about $250 for all my 8 floral arrangements, 4 bouquets, and about 10 boutenneires
I was working like mad with my bridesmaids the night before, but I wouldnt have it any other way a florist would have cost $3000 in NYC so DIY it was, instead I saved so much doing it myself for $250 for absolutely everything, it was a lot of work, but I loved them I loved my bouquet

I am having fake flowers and having my mom do the arrangements because shes awesome at stuff like that and I am trying to make my wedding as cheap as possible.

I’m doing a bit of both. The real flowers I am growing myself, my bouquet will be real roses but everthing else is fake 🙂

I already made mine with fake flowers and i love it! ill post a pic later! and i havent decided if i want to use real or fake for the girls yet

I am using both – real for centrepeices and anything guests will directly touch. Fake for bouquets and boutonnieres, partly because i could get assembling them out of the way earlier and so i can keep my bouquet forever and also they were SO much cheaper!!
Here’s a picture of my bouquet, my littlest bridesmaid’s and the throwaway:
