For the past few months, admist all the wedding planning, I’ve looked at a TON of gorgeous, “blog worthy” weddings that I wish I could pull off. However it has occured to me that most of these weddings rarely feature a plus sized bride/groom. What is up with that?! I’m sure there are thousands of lovely plus-sized brides with beautiful weddings and I’d love to see them. Any thoughts?

It’s also hard to find plus sized brides in a photog’s portfolio…

It is so true! you see all of the weddings in magazines with the skinny model brides but what about us that aren’t all airbrushed and only fed a carrot a week???? It makes me angry and depressed because it makes it seem like only the pretty skinny girls can have dream weddings and amazing pictures and it makes me feel kind of hopeless! I would love so see some beautiful “plus-sized” weddings as well!

I feel the same way. It is very frustrating. I had anxiety for weeks about trying on dresses because I couldn’t see any plus size pictures to know what I might look like. Now that I think of it my photog has no plus size girls in their portfolio. My engagement photographer featured my FI and I on his blog for awhile so I was super happy about that!

Keep your chin up and keep hanging out here! There are plenty of us plus-sized brides, and many have posted their weddings on the blog and on the boards. Crebre just had her wedding, and it was flipping gorgeous!

Are you looking for pictures? I’m a plus size and I just got married in October. I don’t want to hijack your thread, but if you’d like, I’d be more then happy to post some pictures! 🙂
I love my photographer because he has no qualms about using brides/people of all sizes on his portfolio. I know that at least one (maybe 2? I can’t remember) of my hubby and my e-pics are shown on his e-pic slideshow. He’s also used it as the thumbnail pic on his vendor blog on at least one wedding site that I know of.
I remember how excited I was when I went into David’s Bridal and looked at one of the catalog things they have and saw that they actually have some full figured ladies showing off the full figured line! lol It’s kinda sad though that you can’t see those in most (if not all) of the bridal magazines.

@dodgercpkl: yes! picutures would be awesome!!!!

Its very frustrating, especially considering the average couple do not look like super models! I wish they would feature plus size brides more often. Even the sites that claim to have a plus size line have a woman who is like a size 10 modeling for it. I’m sorry, but that is NOT plus size. Find me a size 20 model and then I’ll be content.

Some of the bees here are plus-sized as well, me included. 🙂
As far as magazines and such go, isn’t it the same way with most everything? I’m not saying I think it’s right. I’m just saying that it’s that way with everything else so I’m unsurprised.

Good observation. You are right that there have got to be plenty of plus size brides with beautiful weddings! Heck, DIVA (I think that’s her name) just had one and has posted lots of pictures for us. I loved looking at them and seeing different shots or poses that I liked. We are SO not valued in the wedding industry!
@dodgercpkl: Yes – we want to see pictures! 🙂

Ladies – I’m so sorry I didn’t post these sooner. Here are some of my wedding photos:
For good measure, here are some screen shots of the scrapbook I put together (but haven’t ordered yet) on Mixbook:
I have a literal ton of photos, and I had so much fun!! If you want to see more, just give me a holler and I’ll try and get some more posted up! 🙂

That is one of the reasons I chose the photographers I did. On their website they not only have pictures from a wedding at my venue that I loved but also had pictures of a plus sized bride that were just gorgeous on their website. Not enough people do that!

@ronze073: you know what. I actually emailed a wedding store the other day that was part of a fashion show coming up last weekend. I told them they should have some “average” looking woman in the show, told her that when i went to go dress shopping i postponed it bc i was having anxiety attacks about being so large. I mentioned that every bridal show i went to I came out completely devestated as i felt my wedding owuld never be “that” nice because i was not a size 2. I also said that if there were women with curves on that stage i would most likely find out what bridal store that model was modeling for and buy from them specifically to encourage there take….
they didnt even email me back. I actually feel like kind of a bitch now for sending that email, but its true!! 🙁

@kfricke89: I was pleased to see that my photographer has pictures of pretty much every size bride (and groom) on his website. He didn’t when I chose him, but our decision was made much more by how we felt about him when we met him. Some photographers just give off a vibe in which you know that they think you are unworthy or beneath them, but ours was so much fun! You could tell immediately that he loves what he does and loves making people happy with his work. 🙂
@Baileyh: Don’t feel like a bitch about sending that! They need to hear it! It’s very much true that they don’t have plus size models much if at all. I don’t think I saw a single one at the 4-5 wedding shows that I went to. The ONLY place I saw plus size brides modeling anything was in *SOME* of the wedding magazines, in that tiny little plus bride dress section. And most of those women were still on the thinner side of plus size. 😛 It would be really nice to see more actual plus size stuff – actually in real life!

@dodgercpkl: You guys look so happy! I smiled the whole time I stalked your pictures.
And I agree. As a plus-sized girl myself, I think we all know that we are under-represented. We are specifically looking for people that have worked with plus-sized brides. I did this for my dress and intend to do it for photography. And if I get a vibe about a venue that is “we don’t really cater to bigger people,” then they don’t get my business. Sorry I didn’t go on a diet just so I could get married. 😉
