I am currently a full time Student is Scotland and I am looking for work. I have recently been thinking I would like to set up my own little business – just something small and manageable for some money.
I like the idea of something to do with the wedding industry and I know there is always a market for it – I realise making cakes requires too many restrictions due to health and safety etc and stationery is too competitive!
I am a very good writer though and I had this sort of idea starting of maybe a business for grooms who would like to say something to their future wives in the form of a poem etc but who don’t know where to start. I thought maybe along the lines of they tell me about themselves and their partner and their back story, show me a picture of the special lady and then tell me any memories etc they want included and I formulate a poem for them etc.
I then thought maybe I could branch out to do ANY occasions where people want to find the perfect words to say.
Do you think there would be a market for this/people would pay (not alot) for this service?
Any and all advice would be appreciated plus any ideas!

I’m sure there might be a market for it but how good are your writing skills? Are you published? Have you any experience of writing to a deadline?
I ask these questions because you’ll need to prove why your writing skills are worth paying for given that most people have friends and family who fancy themselves as poets or wordsmiths!

I have a couple of poems published, an A in English, a few copy writing pieces published and articles in newspapers. Also have a whole portfolio. My copy writing pieces were all to a deadline so I can work to that aswell 🙂
If I were to charge them how do you think I would do it? Like a set price for one piece or? I was thinking a really small fee just for some extra cash since it wouldn’t involve much outgoing spend for me but I’m not sure if people would pay for it or not :/ or would it be like they only pay for it if they like it?

@JazzieB: I think this could possibly work if you’re crafty on top of it. I’m not sure how many people would pay for a written poem, but a written poem on a handmade card and I think you’d be in business.

@housebee: I studied art as well and I love crafts! I was originally thinking of doing wedding stationery but knew that the competition would just be too stiff.
Combining the two is a really good idea! Thanks
