I just wrote: Thank you very much for your gift. Simple.
Thank you for your card and enclosed gift.
Or
Thank you for your generous gift.
It is implied without being tacky!
Do you know how you will spend the money? Will you buy a grill? Fix up the house? Buy a house? Buy a new car? That way you can say, "Thank you so much for the gift, we plan to use it to paint the bedrooms of our new house." Or something like that. If you plan on saving it, then I would say something like, "Thank you very much for the gift, it will come in handy as we start our lives together."
I say, "Thank you so much for your generous gift. It was so helpful in setting up our new home!"
I like the way WorcesterBride worded it. If you don't have a new home, "... It will be so helpful in starting our married lives together."
We said 'Thank you for your gift. We will use the money to furnish our house/buy a house/etc.
Dear XXX,
Thank you for your kind wishes and generous gift. Your gift will be put to good use as we start our lives together. We really appreciate you thinking of us during this time of celebration.

or
Dear XXX,
Thank you so much for your very generous gift. We are saving up for a house, and this helps us on our way to our new home. It was so wonderful to celebrate with you at the wedding, and it meant so much to us both that you were able to come.
With Love, Bride and Groom
for a gift:
Dear XXX,
Thank you so much for the wonderful XXXX. We have a lot to celebrate this year and look forward to using it/them. We had such a blast at the wedding, and it meant so much to be able to celebrate with you.
With Love, Bride and Groom
Is there anything specifically you'll be spending the money on? Include it! Any thank-you note will be greatly appreciated - but it's nice to know that your money is going to something specific or good.
I wrote "thank you for your generous gift" on mine. For the friends that are younger and have a good sense of humor I also added, "we will be sure to spend it on something fabulous!"
I have read that you should state in the TY note what you plan to use the money for, if you know. Otherwise a general statement like the others wrote, 'thank you for the generous gift' is sufficient.
We used our wedding money to buy a new TV so we wrote that in the money thank yous. Everyone knew how much my hubby wanted a new TV and I am sure they were happy to hear he was able to get it. :)
