(((Hugs))) I'm so sorry.
Losing a pet is never easy, they are a part of your family.
Good thoughts for kitty's safe passage over the rainbow bridge. Take comfort in the fact that he's no longer in pain.
I am sorry for you both. It seems as though this kitty has provided a lot of love and companionship to her over the years. You all will be in my thoughts:)
Aww I am so sorry! I will definitely be praying for you and your MIL. ((hugs))
@MrsRuby: awww i'm sorry! Having to put a pet down is terrible. It really is like mourning the death of a family member. :( I'll say a few prayers for you, your MIL and your kitty.
Oh no, I am so sorry! My cat got sick very suddenly in January and we ended up having to put her down just a couple days later. It is so hard, I know you must be heartbroken. Don't know if it will help, but I just tried to comfort myself with this thought: As hard as it is on you and your MIL, you made the right decision--you are so strong for deciding to no longer let him suffer even though it is so heartbreaking for you.
I know nothing can really make you feel better now, but I hope you can feel comforted knowing you're doing the right thing. Thinking of you and your MIL!
I'm so sorry that this happened. Losing a pet is really hard.
It sounds like your MIL made the best choice for your cat. Sometimes the kindest choice is also the hardest. Try to focus on what a nice life you gave this cat for 6 years! You rescued him from being a stray and you and your MIL gave him love for 6 years. Now, you've also been able to give him a peaceful send off at the cost of your own grief. You've done a wonderful thing.
Good luck dealing with this. My thoughts are with you and your MIL.
I'm so sorry to hear.. as others have posted, it is very hard to lose a pet. If it makes you feel any better, just think of how much better his life was because you took him in. I'm sure he was grateful to have a family who loved him so much.

little backstory....
When DH deployed I lived with my MIL. A few weeks after I moved in an adult stray cat kept coming around so I asked her if it was ok that I keep him. she was kinda hesitant at first; but said it was fine as long as I cleaned up after him etc.... needless to say she FELL IN LOVE with him. He started sleeping with her everynight, i would hear her downstairs coddling him and sweet talking him. Shes divorced from DH dad... has been for like 20 yrs so that cat became her baby. She asked to keep him when DH and I moved away lol.
Anyway... shes in GA visiting other family for thanksgiving and her sister had been coming over feeding him everyday; I get a call last night that something was wrong and he wasnt doing very well. Hes an old cat... was about 7 when I took him in and she has had him for 6 years! I took him into the vet today and the only options were an extremely expensive surgery and a lifetime of meds that would only help for a little while.... or put him down. I was completely crushed :(
I had to call and ask her what to do since hes her cat now.....she was crying and after talking with the vet made the decision to put him down.
Needless to say, its been a really terrible day :( Ive been crying all morning. Just say a little kitty prayer for me today <3
