I work in a small family-owned office (it's in a converted old farm house) and we have a cat here named Black And White Kitty (we're not necessarily original with names...). Anyhoo, he showed up about six or seven years ago, and he was badly burned and very scared. He had obviously been abused in the worst way, but over the course of these seven years we've taken care of him, gotten him vaccinated and neutered and are at the point where he trusts us and wants to be petted and loved on (but this must be done in a very specific way because at times he'll still hiss and scratch). He lives here at the office...this is his home and we are his people.

Okay, so HUGE problem. Our office is moving as the landlords want to change it into a Dentist's office and have canceled our lease, and we're moving to a place where we can't take Black And White Kitty with us. We love him and have to find a new home for him. HAVE TO. Euthenasia is NOT an option. Okay, so we have to find him a good home but there are some obstacles. - His front teeth are missing (we believe they were knocked out due to abuse) so we're worried about sending him to a friend's farm because he can't hunt adequately AND we've been feeding him for the past six or seven years so he's dependent on us. Plus he's getting older and we're not convinced he'd do too well in a fight. - None of us can take him home because we all have cats and/or dogs and he is a one pet kind of kitty.- He needs to be with someone who will understand his personality...you have to let him come to you, don't take it personally if he swipes, you really can't pick him up, etc. This means he should most likely go to a home without any children. - We can't leave him behind because we're quite certain that the owners of the house would have him trapped and sent to the pound, and they would have him destroyed. - He's primarily an outside pet. He comes inside the office all the time, but that's because we leave the back door open for him. If we shut the door with him inside he'll tolerate it, but be very nervous.

Ideally, he'd stay here with people who would take care of him. OR he'd go to a home with a similar set up as here. We're trying to get the neighbors to take him, but they're not interested. The Feral Cat Society doesn't want to take him either because it's not what they do.

Our next step is to check with the SPCA, but other than that does anyone have any ideas? We could really use some.

Here are some pictures (sorry about the terrible phone quality...):

Around here a lot of people put ads on craiglist, or in this book called uncle henry's www.unclehenrys.com do you have anything like that? I know a lot of people around people always adopt the animals on there. My mom has even gotten two dogs off craigslist that were for free but needed a little extra attention.

I've seen lots of ad's on classified sites where the owner can't keep a pet so they ask if anyone wants it... I would try that. You'll find someone to take him!

or google cat rescue's in your area.  I would be a little apprehensive about posting on craig's list.  You could get some whack job adopting this cat who isn't all there...if you know what i mean.

He's really cute, by the way.

If you do post an add on craigslist make sure to note that there is an adoption fee.  This way you won't get someone that just wants a free cat.

See what you find, meet the potential owners, and even if you don't end up charging them the adoption fee at least you know they were serious about paying it.

Very true. We're already thinking of an interview process...I know beggers can't be choosers or whatever, but he's important to us and we want to make sure that he's safe and happy in his new home.

Thanks for the suggestions! Keep 'em coming!
