i thought i just posted something but it seems to have disappeared!
what kind of wedding are you going for? beachy or fancy ballroom?
Nothing beachy unless its indoors looking at the beach. I have lived in Fl all my life and also work on a very touristy island called Sanibel and I see beach weddings way to much. Frankly I think its overrated and cliche at this point. So, I was hoping for simple elegance. I like the idea of ballrooms but if it were to be anything outdoors I'd like a garden type setting with lots of color and vegitation. I really like Banyan trees too.
Its a little hard to tell what "reasonable" prices would be - maybe you could give us more information?
For a ballroom with close proximity to banyans, you should look at Selby Gardens in Sarasota (http://www.selby.org/index.php?src=gendocs&link=weddings). Of course, any Southwest Florida venue will be less expensive A) in the summer B)Friday or Sunday. Selby has a nice sized ballroom with outdoor overflow space. Its on the water, but in the mangroves, as opposed to on the beach.
my fiance is from cape coral...i looked a little bit out on sanibel but i completely agree with you! and its ridiculously expensive out there! selby gardens is really pretty and i also really liked the edson keith mansion phillipi estate park (http://www.scgov.net/parksandrecreation/RecreationCenters/PEPEdsonKeithMansion.asp). i never went to see this one in person though! if you want to offer an open bar then for budget purposes its best to go with a place that allows you to bring in your own booze. country clubs tend to be more flexible and less costly than hotels also. do you definitely want to stick with the ft. myers area? mixons is pretty, but i think its up in bradenton. heres some pictures from my photographers blog though...

We had our reception at Plantation Golf & Country Club in Venice and absolutely loved it. We had over 200 guests so that wouldn't be a problem. The place is beautiful and Jessie (their wedding coordinator) is awesome to work with. Tell her Callie sent you if you go check it out. We are old friends from high school. :)

Sorry, there are no users yet.
I just recently got engaged and I am on the hunt for a wedding location. However, the dillema I am facing is that my fiancee and I come from families without a whole lot of money. On top of that we both come from rather large families so our guest list is pretty darn lengthy...140 at the moment and growing.
Does anyone have any suggestions on reasonably priced wedding locations that can accomodate so many people?? I am at such a loss with this! Please help! thanks!
