We're registering at Macy's tomorrow, and a vacuum is high on our list. I want something with hose attachements, and pretty maneuverable. We don't have a dog yet, but we'll probably get a (high-shedding) golden retriever in the next year. We'll have kids too...

So, what kind of vacuum should we register for?

I've always heard that the Dyson ones are the best - especially their pet hair one. That's what I want to register for!!

I have the Bissell Pet vacuum and it works great.  Electrolux makes really good vacuums too.

We have the Dyson Animal.  We got it at Costco and it came with tons of attachments and goodies.

I knew before I clicked on this that you'd already have 95% recommendations for Dyson, but count this one too. :) We have the DC25 Blueprint and it's phenomenal.

After going thru many vacuums, I have found out that I HATE upright vacuums, I just find them too heavy and clumsy for me...(i'm small and weak)  And make sure it's BAGLESS.  Finding bags is such a hassle!!  Right now I have a dirt devil canister and it's much better than the upright.  Plus it has the long hose with all the attachments.....BUT I don't have carpet anywhere in my house, so I don't need the spinning brush of an upright.  I have 3 inside dogs, that's why there's not a carpet in sight at my house....lol

DYSONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN! DYSON ANIMAL! High manuevering make sure you get the one with the ball.

Trust me. My 3 pugs broke two vacuums with their hair. The Dyson changed my life (we also registered for ours and got it at our first shower... Thank goodness since it was right after our vacuum broke Laughing )

Here, for proof- a blog on my pug blog (I have a wedding blog and pug blog) about the first time we used it. Granted, remember our vacuum broke so we hadn't vacuumed in a week or two until using it...

A note about Dysons: if you have cheaper carpet, it will tear the carpet fabrics out. If you're emptying your canister and see tons of fuzzy stuff, that means your vacuum is just eating your carpet. They're powerful, but that's not necessarily a good thing!

We have a Bissell Pet Hair Eraser and we love it! FMIL has a dyson and it's okay but I think there are plenty of alternatives that are just as good and much cheaper. The Bissell has tons of attachments and works great at picking up hair from our two cats.

Good post!  I've been wondering the same thing.  The FH says we shouldn't register one, but I disagree we might as well if we can receive it as a gift.

Yes, our Dyson was tearing up our berber (yuck) carpet.  We just turned the beater bar off and it works just fine.

I need a good hand vac!

Good tip on the dyson and cheap carpet. We'll be in apartments for a few more years, and I don't want to destroy the carpet any more than I have to. (The cat does it already).

i found out a couple years ago that i'm allergic to dust and got a vaccuum with a hepa filter as part of my doctor's "prevention" plan, and my vaccuum is amazing! it's the hoover windtunnel. it's heavier than the vaccuum i had before, and more expensive, but it works SO much better! i definitely recommend it

I am obsessed with vacuums and vacuuming as silly as that sounds, and my ALL time, favorite gift ever was none other than the DYSON BALL.  Now, I am the type who vacuums at least 2x/day.  When I got my Dyson Ball the floors were spotless-so I thought.  The Dyson sucks up sooooooo much crap you don't even know is there!!  Without sounding too much like an informercial-that machine is amazing.  I almost filled the canister on my first dyson vac and my floors had been "perfectly" vacuumed 4 hours earlier...it's insane.  I say go with the animal-the animal came out 2 weeks after I got my ball.  It's the same exact thing with one extra pet attachment-DEF the best choice by far!!!  Good luck!! :)

We have the animal ball Dyson (we don't have an animal though) and honestly I think I have an unhealthy love for it.  It's amazing.  I've been called OCD or anal about cleaning and I was disgusted the first time I used the Dyson at how much crap was in my carpet.  It's amazing.  I love it and I think everyone should have one.
