If you got the ring from a store that has any type of computer system, it should be simple for them to re-print a receipt. I would just call the store and check.
I put a receipt from Jared's through the wash, but they just reprinted it.
Ok... thanks. Just minor panic here for a second. :D
It's a local, family owned store, so I'm not sure what kind of computer system they have. I'm sure they can do something for us. *fingers crossed*
If it's local and family owned, I've found that "mom n pop shops" are much more agreeable and accommodating. Especially in today's economy. And it's more likely that they will remember and trust you anyways. Don't freak out too much! :)
My fiance did the exact same thing. The day after he bought it. We contacted the store and they just printed us a new one, no problem.
Ok, I'm so confused about what you are keeping the receipt for? Should we have done that? We sooo didn't! :)
we kept ours because we needed it as 'relationship proof' for our visa applications. Not sure if you need it for insurance purposes or if the appraisal is enough. You might need it if the jewelry store offers some kind of guarantee like free cleaning or diamond replacement for 5 years after purchase or something. But generally I think it's a good idea to keep receipts for big purchases, just in case.
What do you actually need the receipt for? I'm pretty positive if you really need a copy of it you can get another from the store where the ring was purchased.
I'm going to climb on the bandwagon and ask what you need it for. If you're thinking you need the receipt for insurance purposes, you don't. What you need is the appraisal certificate--my ring is appraised at nearly three times what we paid for it.
@ErinMarguerite- That is exactly what I was thinking! There is no way I would have given them the receipt for my ring. We got a very good family friend kind of deal. I actually had two appraisals done, because I was nervous about having one from the store only. I had an independent one done and it was actually for a little more than the store, so we went with that one.
As far as warranty info goes, they should have that on file right? My store wrote everything down and took a picture of the ring.
Thanks everyone for the input. I do think he wants to have it to file away until we get the appraisal and insurance stuff all sqaured away. I didn't think it was too big of a deal, but FH was a little upset. He agreed that when it's ready and he goes to pick it up, he'll get another copy made. He is the type that likes to file all of that stuff away and have a record of it, just in case. If it gives him peace of mind, that's good enough for me, lol!
Did he pay with a credit card or a check? Either way, you can either get the statement or the cancelled check...

FH just texted me - he's washing clothes and he forgot to take the receipt from the ring out of his shorts! It's now in 3 mushy pieces, but he can still see the total amount.
Has anyone else ever gotten in a situation like this? Do you think they can make another copy of it for us? It was one of those carbon paper copies, so they should have a copy in their office. FH is pretty upset over this, but I'm thinking it can be remedied, esp. since they've been so helpful with us this far.
If anyone's got some experience here, it would go a long way to soothing his nerves. Thanks!
