Do you care when they cash it?  If not, just put today’s date and send it in.  If you want them to cash it (or if you don’t care) – I’d add a note:  feel free to cash before the wedding, if you’d like!

I cashed all our checks at the same time – although, I only received one pre-wedding (with a similar note).

Not sure of the official ‘rule’, though.

We received our first one this week for our September wedding and I wasn’t sure how to handle it so I checked Emily Post.  It is ok to cash checks before the wedding but not before the check writer has received your thank you note.  It’s also important to remember that some banks won’t take a check that’s dated more than 90 days back.

We are cashing our checks as soon as the thank you card is mailed.  I HATE when people take months to cash my checks…which is why I usually send a gift card, and just assume it would be equally annoying to someone else.  You could post date the check, but then they’d run the risk of misplacing it etc, depending on how long it is until the wedding.

Oh I hate it when people wait forever to cash checks. It’s like I have this money reflected in the bank… that I don’t really have. Please feel free to cash the check before the wedding. Plus you’re supposed to send a thank you card immediately (I thought). So to me, they sent it early… you enjoy it early. I’m actually about to cash a wedding check right now, and we have 6 weeks until we get married 🙂
