Hello everyone! I'm hoping some of you might have some insight for me... I got married 2 months ago, and my wedding is going to be featured this summer in 2 major publications (including Brides), and has been featured on several blogs. It was the most wonderful day of my life for all the big reasons: it was a joyous celebration, and I was surrounded by friends and family. And on a design level, it really all came together beautifully. The day itself ran so smoothly as well...
Which leads me to my point - I am a producer (events, productions) and recently got my masters from Columbia in a producing/planning field ... I found that as I was planning my (destination) wedding that I really was good at it - AND having a blast.
I'm thinking of starting a wedding planning business and want to find a few clients or two. So, here are my questions that I'd LOVE to get input on from you all ...
- Are you using a wedding planner? - Would you be using one if it weren't cost prohibitive? - What rates feel reasonable to you?
And lastly - does anyone know anyone who is trying to pull together a wedding for this fall? I'd love to find my first couple and would do top to bottom planning for a cut rate fee. (I'd like to assist with as many aspects of the planning process as possible, so I'm looking for a couple that doesn't have too much planned yet but needs to get moving ASAP)
Thanks SO much you guys, I really appreciate any feedback you might be able to give me!
I do like planning the details of my wedding, but I worry about the stress. $ is def. an issue for us, since we have a $15k budget & fairly large family (all 9 hrs away or more)...I think if you do different packages, then people can get what they need. One co. started at $3k, so I didn't keep looking...BTW, my wedding is in Feb, 6 mo engagement, working full time and PT grad student...luckily I'm in a planning field, too, so I hope it pays off like yours did!
I just hired a day-of coordinator and I'm really excited about working with her. I like that she told me (when we met the first time) that her goal is to make sure both me and my FI's cell phones are off for the whole day and no one should be bothering us with anything, they all go to her.
I priced several different planners before hiring her and they were all expensive. Just for a day-of, the prices were starting at $1K. Mine is actually $650 for day-of coordination.
