HI Ladies! I just got engaged last month so I’ve been lurking on this site, but this is my first post. We are getting married at Riu Palace Peninsula in Cancun, June 2015. I know it will be HOT with an outside wedding, so I will need to keep that in mind when dress shopping. my mom is visiting in 3 weeks so we are looking at dresses then. Any suggestions on dresses for 90 degree weather?

Dresses made of light fabrics like chiffon or georgette are great for beach weddings. They’re light, breathable, and comfortable.
There are lots of affordable dresses made in these fabrics as well. I suggest looking at destination wedding dress collections like Voyage by Mori Lee.

MissBoots: lightweight dress. Avoid things with too many layers, or a lot of poof. Avoid heavy fabrics like satin and taffeta. Lace can get heavy, but it can also be very light, it depends. Ballgowns and even a-lines will probably be to hot. Mermaids to, most likely. Sheath dresses are the coolest, but hard to wear without a tall, slender frame.
Slightly related , but I would avoid a veil. I think you’ll just end up with it flying around during the ceremony.

Thank you for suggestions. I love the look of the mermaid style but haven’t tried any dresses on, so it might not fit my body the best anyway. I live in south Texas so the bridal shops here should have a lot of options for hot weather. I’ll check out those styles you suggested. Also, shoes…..ceremony will actually be in a garden area on grass. So heels are probably out of the question too. I am planning on it being a very relaxed atmosphere….maybe wedges or even white blingy flip flops?
