I would not open gifts.  It may make some people uncomfortable or feel bad.  Toasts/speeches are a great idea.  How about a slide show?

We’re also have a small luncheon reception with no dancing. We only have one invited guest who is not family, so we’ll basically just be chatting like we do normally during family get togethers. I wouldn’t stress what you’re “going to do” during the meal, people will naturally talk to each other. (I think)

I am not sure there is much more to do other than a toast, as has been mentioned.

You could have a poster/collage of pictures of the two of you?

Newlywed game?

Photobooth with guests camera? Post on your website that people should bring their own cameras and offer a prize to whoever takes the best picture and sends it to you after the wedding 🙂 Set up a place with a couple props to take pictures.

Our church has some ping pong tables and I think we’ll set them up out in the foyer for anybody who wants to play. May be tacky but it’ll be fun.

Special music?  or even karaoke if you’re brave.

Cake cutting. Tosses if you want.

Mingling, go to each table to chat.

Best story prize. Each table elects someone from their table with the best story about the bride and/or groom. THe table with the best story gets to eat first or something else fun 🙂

Poster of pics of bride/groom/family/etc.

Wishing tree or money tree if it works in your area (people hang wishes from a tree/bush) also Wishing bowls if you like that better.

Guest book fingerprint tree.
