What I worry about is money (don’t we all?). My MOH is such a nice lady, she said I should have what I want (my fiance and I are on the same page with what we want for reception, but his family thinks it’s too extravagant/expensive), and that I really shouldn’t skimp on things (by that, she means, get the dress I want, have the venue I want, not necessarily have expensive centrepieces, etc).
We are wanting to get married at the Royal Oak, which is a hotel and and venue tied into one. You essentially pay the catering cost (which is higher than other places) but with that you get the hall rental, honeymoon suite that night, honeymoon suite on your one year, champagne for head table, and all the table fixings like linens, glasses, cutlery, etc ‘free of charge’. But the bill would be about $3500-$4000 for 100 people. I think that’s fine with all it comes with (wait staff as well, pay separately for the bartender which would put our price to $4000).
I’m quite the craftster and will be making the decorations (it’s my job as it is), we get a huge discount on the cake, musicians (our friends) and DJ, church is free…so our wedding will fall anywhere from $5,000-$8,000. I think that’s fine (that includes the dress, the gifts to wedding party, marriage license, venue, pics – prof photographer is actually an old friend of mine, honeymoon etc), but I’m getting a little heat for it. I would love to hear about some of you guys? How was your wedding? Anything that came to be more expensive than you thought, less expensive?
