We are doing something similar. We chose a small wedding because it's what we both wanted, but that small wedding left a lot of people out of the loop. So we are planning a big housewarming party, complete with catered BBQ, tent, DJ and band, faux-to booth, and lawn games, that will fall right around our first anniversary. I chose a similar color scheme or pink, red, yellow, and orange. Here's my inspiration board:
Awesome! That looks super fun. I love the big drink containers too! I was thinking it might be fun to have one or two similar mismatched containers with the non-alcoholic drinks like Lemonade in them.

Hi Ladies,
I'm baaack. So my husband I were married in a private, planned ceremony on June 4, 2011 during a short vacation to NYC. There were a lot of reasons why we decided to keep the wedding to just us, but part of it was cost and the fact we simply couldn't afford to have a big wedding and inviting anyone would mean we would have to invite around 200 people. However, we knew we were moving to Afghanistan with new jobs in a few weeks and things would change. So, we decided it would be best to instead host a "first anniversary party" in the summer of 2012.
Now it's time to start planning, and our families are REALLY excited. Thank goodness, because planning this from Afghanistan is going to take some help from my mom and grandma who have already said they'd help in any way possible (sans money ; ) The thing is, it's really important to me that we keep it fun, unstuffy, but really nice. I don't want it to be too "wedding-y" (Because we're already married! Yippee!) but I realize that people do sort of see it that way.
Also, we'll obviously be in town on vacation,. DH's family will all be coming from out of town (mostly Ohio). And as I started generating ideas, I sort of got inspired by 1950s travel advertisements. I don't want the party to be theme'd, but I thought maybe this would be a fun inspiration. Summer vacation, travel, Michigan, Detroit. Local microbrews and wine, good food. Bright pink, orange, yellow, and (small) touches of blue. I realize this is out of the box, but what do you guys think? I'm adding a poll and inserting a mood board I made. (Sorry for the size)
If you have any awesome ideas or suggestions, I'd love to hear them too!
