After 3 months of desparately looking for a reception venue, I think I may have found one that I really like and that’s way under my budget. The problem is that this venue is in a bad part of town. When I’ve mentioned this place, most people either say they’ll never go on that side of town or joke that I should wear a bulletproof vest under my dress. I honestly believe that this area just has a bad rap but I don’t want people to now show up to my reception out of fear of being mugged. Should I keep looking or take the risk that people may not come?

If it were me, I would keep looking. There is an area in my town that I wouldn’t step foot in, maybe not even to go to my best friend’s wedding. A friend of a friend got shot 2 houses down from his own house and killed as he was walking home in that area. If that part of town has a bad rep, you have to wonder why and also wonder if you are putting yourself or your friends and family in danger. I know it seems like that would never happen, but it does happen, and happens quite often.
I think if you already know your guests will be uncomfortable with it, its not the perfect place. Do you have a smaller budget, is that why you are having a hard time finding a good reception place?

i would keep in mind the ceremony is for the bride and groom and the reception is the party for the guests and you and the groom!! i would make sure its in a place where EVERYONE will be comfortable and set the right attitude!!!

In most cases it’s just ignorance, but in others…you might be asking a lot of your guests to drive there and leave their cars.
