Any thoughts on a pasta dinner buffet? Fresh cooked pasta by a chef – we are having the cocktail hour, salad, open bar of beer and wine. This would help us to afford the 120 guests (combed down from about 150).

Would the chef be doing it stations style in front of the guests? I think pasta sounds good, but if you’re planning a buffet where the chef is cooking the pasta in front of the guests, it’s going to take a long time to feed 120 guests.

@Daenaria727: That sounds awesome! How would it work- a bunch of chefs doing custom pasta dishes as people stand in queue?

@little_d: We actually did it for our daughter’s baptism reception. It does take a little while, but there is one chef per 25 people, and he can cook 2 or 3 plates at once, I can’t remember. It was $20 a head, no room rental fee, plus the cost of alcohol. It’s an amazing deal. Just considering it for now, I want to find out more.
Everyone LOVED it at the baptism reception. Some people went for salad first, others went straight to pasta. No one complained about having to wait. Just wanted to get some feedback on the idea of pasta for a wedding reception. We just have so many people that we want to share our day with, and want them to enjoy themselves as much as we can afford with having had a baby this year!

@Daenaria727: If the chef can pump out the dishes quickly, I think it’s a great idea! Perfect if people get to choose what toppings/ingredients they want- sounds delicious and what a deal!

@Daenaria727: 1000% yes.
My husband & I were only able to afford our 100 person wedding because our buffet was 8.50pp.
