- Wedding: August 2011
OK, This is Cleve’s new husband writing to ask advice from the hive. (I’ve never been here before but I know the terminology, scary…)
Either way, we got married last saturday. We put together a wedding and reception for next to nothing (literally) and not everything went quite as planned. The ceremony was beautiful, pictures were great but just as we got to the the reception the skies opened up on our (intended to be) outdoor reception. We ate dinner in the backup building where it was 90 degrees. The area covered by the tent flooded, and the winds threatened to blow away our homemade cupcake stand, along with the guests conscripted to hold it in place. We lost all our outside lights and the lights decided to take the stereo with them. Guests, mainly my family, started leaving before the cake cutting and my Bride thought all was lost. But, while the Maid of honor was trying to shout her speech over the crowd (no stereo/PA system) everything turned around. My groomsmen organized a rescue party. They re-arranged the speakers and got the music playing. Tables got moved to open up a suitable dance floor, and our Cake stand (200 cupcakes + a 200 lbs table) got shuffled inside to safety.
Once the cake was cut and the the music re-started the party was back on. No-one else left. Some late invites showed up, and we partied late into the night.
So, how does this disaster compare? My wife is fretting that everything we worked so hard for didn’t turn out perfect. I say, we had a beautiful ceremony and loads of fun, once rescue crew finished their tasks. So, who else had a less than perfect wedding day???
