@edavidson:  It depends on what you want and what you can afford. I thought about a reception dress as well. However, it took awhile for me to find “the one” so it will stay on the entire time. And the hubby better hope I take it off at the hotel later that night lol! I think with ballgowns if you remove the added petti-coat (if you are adding one) during the reception you will be ok.

@edavidson:  I will not be wearing a ballgown at my wedding as that is not my style, but my sister in law wore a lovely ball gown all night at her wedding to my brother in June.  She was hot and a bit sweaty looking at times, but I think she was happy still because she loved her dress.  It was more that other people noticed her looking flushed/sweaty. She is an itty bitty 5’2″ and 98 lbs, so the gown added a LOT of fabric to her tiny frame.  She has never once said she wished she had changed into another dress though, so I think she was quite happy. Based on her experience, I say that you may very well be hot and a bit sweaty if you wear a big dress all night, but if you WANT to wear it all night, then do it anyway.  It is your day and you should be happy!  Wear what you want to wear.
