OK Fellow Bees –
I’m in a bit of a pickle and a time crunch. I have these two dresses which look VERY similiar (well to me anyway) and I’m having a hard time deciding between the two. I think they both are VERY pretty and something I can dance in especially once I have it altered and a major thigh high slit cut into the skirt.
The first one pictured is from David’s Bridal and it’s listed for $259
The second one is from one of those discount high end website and with the email I received today it would total $100.95 INCLUDING shipping and taxes.
The major difference between the two is the one from DB has a completely embellished back and the JS dress is plain ivory with a hidden zipper but I liek the embellishment on the JS sleeves better but I love how the side of the DB dress is completely cut away.
SO with all that being said, for a discount of more than $150, would you go for dress #2? I have to decide by this evening or the JS dress goes back to above $200 and that’s still with a discount.

You’re wearing the dress for what, 4-5 hours? Go with the less expensive one.

I like the first one better. It looks more modern.

SunnierDaysAhead: lol IF THAT! No seriously, that sounds about right. My actually ceremony dress is a bit binding and we all LOVE to dance and I know I wont be able to dance in that dress so I figured I’d buy a nice cheap one to party in and I wont mind if it gets messed up.

I would order the first dress for three reasons. I think it looks much better. I wouldn’t want to take a chance on the quality of the work when I’ve put so much effort into the rest of the wedding. I’m against supporting relica dress makers in principle.

I actually like the second one better, at least from the front. I think the criss-cross would be flattering. of course, I haven’t seen the backs though.

I also like the first one better- the cut and smoothness of the fabric looks better than the rouching on the top of the second.. But I’m super anti-rouching so take that with a grain of salt. If you have room in your budget for the extra $150 I’d go with the first. It’s fitted pretty much all the way down your torso (due to the low back- but that may cost more in alterations as well) whereas the second one is fitted in the bust only, then drapes down…
If I had the extra $150 in my budget I’d go with #1, if not #2 would be close enough for me!

julies1949: Which one do you consider a replica dress? the second one? It says its from JS Boutique so I’m not sure who the original designer is.
BeckyS0: Honestly the max I wanted to spend on another dress is $200 especially since I will need to have it altered. I think pleated bodice would be flattering but I wonder if the pleating and embellished shoulders are a little TOO much?

I like the first one. It looks so sleek, modern and elegant. I feel like the ruching makes them look very different, and I strongly prefer it without!

I think you should get the first one. I know it’s more and I usually don’t say go with the more expensive one but I think they drag very different dresses! The first one is much more flattering and I just like the overall look of it waaaay better. I say it’s worth the extra bucks this time.

I’d get the second one. I like the way the sleeves are more bunched in the front and the detail in the front.
What’s the return poicy on the second one? If your wedding date is far enough out you could order and if you don’t like it return it for the other.

CHristine2809: NewYearsEve: Thanks for the feedback. I too agree the David’s Bridal dress looks more sleek and modern.
barrogten: VERY good point on purchasing and possibly returning the dress. Let me check out the policy and then hopefully that will help me make my decision.

Have you tried the DB dress on? What kind of material is it?

I have seen the DB one and it is really nice. Looks way more expensive than it is and the material hangs really nicely.
