We are having our wedding in mexico in two months and the wedding coordinator informed me that the wedding reception has to be done at 9, unless we want to pay an extra $2000 to extend the bar and DJ to 11PM (which is the latest they will allow to go). We are planning on going to the disco at this time, but we dont want ot pay the extra money for two hours.
Does anyone have suggestions about what to do in the two hours between the reception ending and the disco? We are thinking about just getting a speaker and taking our party to the beach or a bar until the disco opens up.

does the disco open at 11?
I would just hang out at one of the regular bar areas… drinking until the disco opens…
Im having a destination wedding too… thats what I would do…. AND i would keep my dress on 🙂

almostmrsnyitrai: Why not just hit up the bars in the area?? We had a Destination Wedding In mexico last year and I really wanted to do that after the dinner (we didn’t do a full-on reception) but I was soo pooped by the end of the day we just crashed… But there were a ton of bars in the area/town within walking distance- including ones on the beach with swings at the bar!!

Unfortunately we are ten minute cab ride from the bars but they do have some great ones nearby. I am more concerned about our guests having to pick up and go, it feels like we will be inconveniencing them quite a bit. Did any of your guests complain about it at all?
I’m hoping to get the main wedding things taken care of at the reception (garter toss, bouquet toss, first dance, etc) and then just have a more relaxed time at a bar on the resort where we can visit with our guests and thank them for coming all the way to mexico to celebrate.

almostmrsnyitrai: Hm…what’s your hotel situation like? My reception ends at 9 as well so we’re just renting a conference room in the hotel for an after party.

The last time I went to a destination wedding it was a similar set up.. The ‘reception’ ended at 9 and they put on a beach party (the resort organized it though).
We drank and danced by a fire for a few hours, jumped in the pool in our wedding clothes, and then changed and headed to the disco.
