Help! I’m looking for ideas for a destination wedding reception with 35-40 people.
Just going out for a fancy dinner doesn’t sound like enough because I feel like these people will have travelled all this way and now all I’m doing is giving them dinner. Maybe I’m over thinking this cause I’ve never actually been to a destination wedding and I just keep comparing it to a wedding at home where there’s dinner, dancing, etc…
One option that we’re considering is a luau at one of the hotels – This would provide our guests with dinner and entertainment. I’m afraid this is totally cheesy though. Opinions please!

I think the Luau is an awesome idea!!! I agree it should be more than just dinner but I dont think you need to go in the full blown reception route. Dinner and the entertainment at the Luau would be perfect 🙂 Have fun planning your DW!!

- Wedding: January 2012 - Wynn Las Vegas/Bouchon Bistro
We had a destination wedding in Vegas, and we took everyone out to a really nice dinner afterwards! It was a blast. We rented out a private room at one of our favorite spots, and everyone drank nice wine and ate delicious food. It ended up being a pretty late night. Cocktail hour started at 7:30; dinner went until 10pm. Some people went out gambling afterwards (our favors were poker chips to the casino where the restaurant was); other people went out to lounges.
I think your idea of dinner and a luau sounds like a lot of fun.
Edited to add: We also hosted all of our guests to a dinner the night before as well, just as a thanks for making the trip.

The luau is totally not a bad idea! That would be fun. If you’re looking for something more though, I’m doing a reception at a hotel. They do it outside on the lawn, with dinner options and then a lot of other options. I’ve opted for a DJ with dancing, but everything ends by 10:00. They might have something like that in Florida too? Like wedding packages? Let me know if you’d like more info, even though mine’s in Hawaii.

Thanks everyone! I’m glad to hear that the luau isn’t totally cheesy! 🙂
