Hello!<br /><br />It is now time that we seriously start looking at seating/layouts for our reception (yay… clearly the most fun part!)<br /><br />We are very fortunate to have the option of a draped canopy on the terrace of our venue that can be used as for our seated dinner (see pics attached).
Both MoB and MoG are now saying that they are concerned about eating outdoors (even if the canopy is covering trees etc) because of the potential heat in July as well as bugs….<br /><br />What do you all think? I really loved the idea of the outdoor dinner as it is a bit more memorable than a traditional banquet hall seating style. Please let me know what you think!!
If we don’t use the canopy for seating, we could always rent some lounge furniture for outside

While I love love love the idea of eating outside as well, I opted for indoor because I would also be concerned about bugs/heat. It is a GORGEOUS space, though, and I would definitely set up some lounge furniture and figure out another way to use the space. Perhaps dessert?

I agree with PP. I haven’t set a date yet, but I am hoping for a summer wedding like you. I totally ge the appeal to eat outside, but I’ve come to accept that in the heat of summer guests probably wouldn’t want to sweat to death. You have such a beautiful space I’m sure you can make it even more beautiful than eating outside would have been.

You’re in Toronto? I don’t think it gets horribly hot there, even in the summer, right? I vote for the outside space — it’s gorgeous!

sparky18: OMG OUTSIDE. 150% OUTSIDE! That setup is to die for! My wedding is all outdoors in July and no one has batten eye at eating under a tent. I’ve been to 2 outdoor weddings in peak heat and it’s not an issue as long as you have shade for people and plenty of water to keep people cool.

Yea Toronto can get pretty hot sometimes but usually in the mid to high 20s in July I think – hopefully not mid 30s like last year!!<br /><br />I am pretty much head over heels in love with the outdoor set up minus the only aspect that not everyone will be ‘facing’ the head table. We will be in the middle so for speeches, people might not be able to see us so much? Is that a big deal?

you’re in toronto? outside! it’s bananas amazing – plus when are you eating, six, seven, eight? it won’t be 30 in the evening, and the space is covered anyways, so it will have been in the shade all day. i honestly don’t think there’s a comparison!

peonyinlove: Thank you!! Yea Graydon Hall Manor is such a stunner, I just had to have it hehe Ceremony 5:30, cocktail hour at 6 and then dinner likely around 7 🙂 You’re right, it should be cooling off alot by then!

I think you should do the dinner inside, and rent some furniture for outside. Maybe put the dance floor outside too, depending on how close the two spaces are.

I love the outside look. We’re also doing dinner (and dancing, and ceremony, and all) outside in July in California. Our ceremony is at 5 (with no direct sun on the area starting around 4 and it cools off quickly), and dinner starting around 7. sounds perfect. & just depends on the typical weather at that time of day in your area. don’t worry about the average high (because in most places, the high occurs sometime noon-4pm), figure out what temp it usually is that time of year by 7pm.

We’re planning on having our brunch reception indoors but the ceremony outdoors. We just visited again this weekend – even though it costs quite a bit, I’m glad we chose this venue. It’s just so lovely!
