we are having pink and purple up lighting but are doing it ourselves. The cost to have a professional do it is ridiculous and it’s not hard to do.

Two things, first ask your DJ if he can do this for you. It’s just uplighting and to me, I’d just rather have someone else deal with the set up/tear down. Second, if that’s a no-go, you can just use outdoor flood lights from Home Depot or whatever and see if they have any coloured gels that go over it to create the purple colour or whatever it is you’re looking for. Our tent rental guy told us to do it ourselves that way rather than rent from him 🙂

It might not be a bad idea. Better to ask now then to find out on the day they won’t let you do it. I don’t see why it would be a problem though.

I like the up lighting! Our venue gave us a few suggested vendors and I ended up going with one that is also doing our ceiling swag. The lighting will cost us $240! Cheaper than the swag that cost $450!

Ask your florist or DJ if they do uplights.  Our florist is doing 10 hot pink uplights around the room for $25 each.  I thought that was a reasonable price.  Our DJ charges $50 per light for the exact same thing! You just have to shop around.

Do a search for lighting companies in your area.  Also, check with your venue to see if they have any requirements (ie: liability insurance) or recommendations.

We are doing extensive uplighting, and it cost about $800 with labor and everything (we had a sound system and stuff also which was additional to that. Our uplights were around $25 each. I’d price it out before you DIY. Do you REALLY want to be running around dealing with finding outlets and power limitations the day of your wedding?…..no, really, do you?

I’m considering uplighting as well.  Does anyone happen to have any pics of a gold/amber color light?  Would love to see how it looks.  I’ll either do that or purple.
