My family loves reggae, so I suggested that to our DJ for the cocktail hour/dinner because it is chill music. Then I hit all the decades for the dance music: I love funk from the 70’s (Earth, Wind, and Fire, Lakeside, Midnight Star, etc.), then Alternative/Glam metal from the 80’s (Poison, The Cure, Billy Idol), then some good ol’ hip hop (MC Hammer, Run DMC), then becasuse we are metalheads we threw in some personal favorites to the mix. I also told him to include some modern hits at his discretion, plus whatever people request. My “do not play” list consisted of any choreographed dances (Macarena, electric slide, chicken dance, etc.), any Beach Boys, Brown Eyed Girl, Sweet Caroline, and Build Me Up Buttercup LOL! Hate those songs!
