My Fiance and I live in Texas but we are getting married in Minnesota. I was born and raised in Minnesota and all my family lives there and so does his. Thus is the reason we are having our wedding there. Long story short we are struggling to find a place for a reception. I"m from a super small town. We are planning on getting married at the church my parents got married at. We are inviting around 250 guests. We have the option of haivng it at the local ballroom which is pretty much a dump or at the school which is newly remodeled but allows no alcohol on premises. I need more ideas! help!

Is there the option of renting a tent and having an outdoor reception?

You can alwasy rent a party tent and stick it in a feild somewhere. But of course, you'd have to rent tables and chairs and dishes, and all that jazz. If you know someone in Minnesota who owns some land, I would look into that! you can really do alot with a party tent.

yes! that is an option but we haven't been able to find a spot for the tents. My parents property would be perfect but unfourtunately there isn't any flat land for tents, its all hills. We have talked to some relatives about their property but there is no room for parking :-(  There is no local VFW or anything like that nearby either.

What if you moved the wedding site like an hour or so away? Maybe you could find something better than the school (or flat land!) if you looka little further away.

I'm home for thanksgiving and I just went and scoped out the land at my parents and I think I may have found a spot! I'm just hoping they would be ok hosting a big event like that! Good idea :-) I totally want to do clear lights and white laterns for decor...I just like the idea of it being outdoors. Its just my fiance and I's style.

If having it outdoors is what you really want, make it happen!  I'm sure your parents will be fine with it! :-)

I love MN!  I'm sure a tent would be awesome and you'll have total control over your decor, so you can keep the costs low.  Good luck!

Glad you found a spot.  I'm sure you can sell your parents on your dream.

unfourtunately when I brought it up they didn't like the idea at all. Its a lot of work to do an outdoor wedding. and their isn't enough room for parking nothing local to shuttle. I'm on  tight budget.

Are you set on having alcohol at the reception?

yeah that is the whole issue at the moment. My fiance thinks that no one from his family will come to it because they drink a lot. I don't think that would stop them from coming. I think that having it at the newly remodeled school commons area is a good option and then having an after party outdoors at my parents house..I think it would be a good compromise. Especially when the rental of the school commons is FREE and i could work on decorating it weeks before hand. I just need help convincing my fiance that is the best option.

Free is good! We're not having alcohol at our reception, even though both families drink. A lot. I mean, A LOT. lol. But our wedding is at noon. We know not having alcohol will not stop people from coming to the wedding, but if it does, I don't want them coming anyway. This isn't just a free-for-all party for them! I like the idea of having an afterparty.
