I think the best way to make it longer is to make your ceremony earlier. 6:30 is fairly late for a ceremony, I’m usually eating dinner by 5:30. Is there anyway you could move the ceremony up to 5 or 5:30?

How far apart are the church and reception location?  25 min to take portraits, get to reception and start dinner seems rushed to me.

cincilover:  I think it depends on what kind of appetizer.  If it’s passed then I don’t think that would be weird, because it’s really kind of like a cocktail hour.  If it’s a sit down appetizer then I’d feel strange sitting at my table eating when the couple arrived.

Is it possible to have a dessert/heavy hordourves reception?

This is pretty close to the timeline of my wedding but we started at 5 and ended at 10:30 due to noise ordinabces. I was a little afraid it would be too short but honestly it was perfect. IMO weddings that go all night get exhausting to be at.

Although I would suggest doing your photos before or at least opening up the bar for people to get a drink and socialize a but while they wait for you.

MsJ2theZ:  You mentioned that you started at 5 and the timing ended up working very well. Would you mind sharing your wedding day schedule?  We are thinking of a 5 p.m. Start time for a Friday evening wedding in July at a park, with the reception at a building onsite, followed by dinner and a dance.  Thanks!!
