hello! have you tried the westwood?
http://www.thewestwood.com/wedding.htm
we came across this during place our venue search. we did not book here, but the prices are very reasonable....
venue searching is tough.. good luck!
Same here...however try the Lake Mohawk Country Club in Sparta, NJ. The Country Club is situated directly on the lake with a wood boardwalk that extends the entire length of the South side of the lake. Ball room is a large wood floor (no ugly carpets to compete against), high ceiling and large window room over looking the lake. Our wedding will be on the top deck and the cocktail will be on the lower deck under the tents. Price is fabulous...NYC hasn't effected the pricing. $90/pp for a sit down filet dinner with open bar. Management is laid back and will allow you to do most things except bring outside food and to tack things on the wall. Website is dated but do yourself a favor and check it out and do not forget to check on the Bridal tower.
BTW...I tore my hair out as well b/c I'm used to NYC restaurants and designs but on a beer budget. If you want to infuse a modern decor to your wedding they are very flexiable. -Good Luck!
Call Arthur's Landing, ask for Jody Reynolds, think I paid a little more but I had a fantastic NYC wedding for less. PM if you want help. I am a consultant now but I be more than happy to help out.

I have the same problem. Everything seems to be at least $100 plus tax and tip. I have a spreadsheet i have started with places and prices that they have sent to me or i have found online. I will try to PM it to you.
Never mind. It wont let me send attachments. Email me your address if you want it. Also if you are getting married in 2009 I know merri makers has all sorts of promotions for their dates in 2009. Try them and also some of their prices arent too bad.
Let us know when you pick somewhere.
i grew up in central jersey and i know exactly what you mean!!! i ended up marrying (and living) in eastern pa.
here's a list of places in central jersey through the Knot (did a quick search on venues that cost $$): http://www.theknot.com/kl_vendorresults.html?keyword=NEW+JERSEY&category=CAR&market=073&submarket=&capacity=&price=2&style=&search_cache=amenities%5Ecapacity%5Eprice%5Estyle%5Esubmarket&x=19&y=11
I found a lot of the same things you all are saying. I went to the Bretton Woods in Morris Plains (too small for me) but the banquet director Joe was very willing to work in budgets and I loved the romantic feel of the mansion. Perona Farms in Andover also is pretty reasonable but may be far for you. It was a little too far from my church. I thought the best bang for your price had to be the Meadowood Manor. They threw in SO many things and it was only built in 2003 maybe 2004. Sorry these places may be a little too north for you but I guarantee you if you keep looking you will find something in your budget!

Well, we've started our hunt for a reception site, and all I have been able to accomplish is a headache! Every where we've looked is either too expensive and or the location is still stuck in 1980. we have been engaged for 3 weeks and i'm already pulling my hair. so please any one with info in good trendy but not too expensive reception site in central jersey $70-$90 pp for a sit-down . I would greatly appreciated.
