So, just wondering if any of you have taken on the project of hanging fabric on the ceiling or walls of your wedding venue? And if you did – what would you have done differently? What tips or tricks would you suggest? Was it worth it?
Did you have a professional install it all for you to save on the hassle?
I’ve priced out the few (2) companies in my city that actually provide ceiling drapes w/ install/de-install and they’re pretty hefty bills compared to my very tiny budget. With that said, the fabric is a must have for me :3

It’s not worth the money to pay someone or the hassle to do it yourself. I say this as a wedding planner who has dealt with many ranges of this and honestly, for the time and effort invilved, it just doesn’t add that much to the overall look in my opinion.

It also depends on the physical structure of the room. Some rooms have beams that are easy to drape or eye screws alreay place in the walls from which you can string supporting cables.
No matter what, you will need tall ladders or a scissor lift for many tall buildings.

Some reception halls dont allow items to be hung from their ceilings. And some dont allow fabric that isnt flame retardant, either. I would definitely ask before you start buying items.
Ive looked into DIYing draping – gossameer fabric is fairly inexpensive and comes in a wide variety of colors and widths. It is kind of sheer though. It is flame retardant. http://www.stumpsparty.com/catalog.cfm?cat=47452
Hobby Lobby has a poly satin fabric for $2.99/yd (or $1.79/yd with your 40% coupon). It also comes in a variety of colors. It is opaque but only comes in one width. I doubt if it is flame retardant. Looks beautiful, though!
