Are you limiting your search for only NYC, or are you willing to venture out to other boroughs?
My partner and I are getting married in Queens. We chose the Bayside Historical Society simply for its beauty, and uniqueness. They are totally gay friendly. You can also try Central Park boathouse, all the hotels in NYC, really it all depends on what type of atmosphere you are looking for.
Thank you "dsuhornets" for your advice! Wishing you the best for your BIG day!
kewlkalm, my suggestion would be that you start by looking at wedding venues generally, rather than by limiting your search to those receptive to same-sex couples. When my wife and I got married, we used a variety of traditional wedding vendors, and did not find any who were not willing to work with a same-sex couple. If you find one, of course you can cross them off your list. However, same-sex weddings are still a recent enough phenomenon that many vendors have not yet had a chance to prove their willingness to work with same-sex couples.
I agree with 2dbride. We also are using a mix of traditional vendors, including our venue. We have been blessed to have not encountered anyone that was not willing to work with a same sex couple. I think people are beginning to see that we are present, and very much a part of the booming wedding industry. I did not search for gay friendly vendors, but for reputable ones. When I made contact I was sure to explain that we were in fact a same sex couple, and never had I received a negative response. Many of the vendors explained that they had worked with same sex couples prior, and that they were excited to possibly be a part of our special day. That to me was reassuring.
Thank you both for your input. We have found our Ceremony and Reception site. We are having our Ceremony at Park Avenue Christian Church, a beautiful gothic style church. They are an Open & Affirming Church. Our reception is at a beautiful event space called Branch. There are many venues that are accepting of Same Sex Commitment Ceremonies. I wish everyone the BEST!
congratulations! Hope you enjoy your planning and special day immensely!
Brooklyn Society for Ethical Culture (or NYSEC)! I am getting married there in september - they are fantastic. It is a beautiful limestone mansion on Propect park west with a large garden. You can bring your own caterers etc etc.
Good luck!
try the queens botanical gardens--GORGEOUS...they can accommodate up to 80 people for ceremony and reception
Look into Astra..I believe its int he 50s on the east side...great views, outside balcony, but the inside is a more cozy feeling..
