What is everyone doing for a recessional? We have a dj and were thinking about "These are days" by 10,000 Maniacs... But we're not sold. Any other ideas?
I am guessing from your post you are not looking for traditional selections but I am using The Rejoicing from Fireworks Music by Handel. Is a DJ playing all ceremony music??
Yep, it's an outdoor ceremony (reception in same location) and our guitarist backed out, so the dj is going to play pre-wedding samba music, "Here Comes the Sun" processional, and we're-not-sure-what for the recessional.
We used the Royal Fireworks (we had a brass quintet), but I think The Beach Boys' 'God Only Knows' would work...
We also thought about the Halleluiah Chorus from Handel's Messiah :) Slightly irreverant, but fun. Ditto the Star Wars theme (or Raiders of the Lost Ark).
We're using "Tenderness" by General Public. Every time I hear it I think of the last scene of the movie "Clueless" where the girls are at the wedding scrambling to catch the bouquet. =)
Other top contenders were "Bittersweet Symphony" by The Verve and "Beautiful Day" by U2.
Random pop music cautionary tale that I was just thinking of this weekend....
When the song "Joy to the World" (you know, pop song, not Christmas carol) first came out, some friends of my parents used it as a recessional. Super-cute idea, if you think of the refrain that repeats: "Joy to the world, all the boys and girls..."
But all the guests were very confused when the wedding party got ready to walk, the music got cued up, and the first words of the song echoed through the church. That's right: "JEREMIAH WAS A BULLFROG..."
I think it completely depends on the vibe you want for the wedding. I've seen people do it beautifully to classical music but I was at a wedding where they played Lovefool by The Cardigans and it was superfun and cute! As for us, after seeing the movie Stranger Than Fiction my FI and I both agreed that we wanted to do our recessional to Whole Wide World by Wreckless Eric, the song Will Ferrell plays to Maggie Gyllenhall on the guitar. :-)

Because we're getting married in September (and our original anniversary is in Sept), we are using...September by Earth, Wind, and Fire!
