When my mom did a recipe shower for one of my relatives, she made it a potluck and asked people to bring the recipe along with the food. I didn't actually get an actual invitation though (this shower was in April, my own wedding is in July so mom used my guest list for the family addresses - I'm not on my own guest list!), so I don't know exactly how she worded it.

I'm throwing a shower for one of my best friends soon. She originally wanted a bridal shower and a separate recipe+kitchen trinket shower, but the guest list is small, so we decided to combine the two. I've been to many showers where we brought a recipe and a gift. What's the best way to word the invitation(it's an e-vite per her request) to where it doesn't sound like people HAVE to bring a gift--that's tacky, I know. :-)
