I'm sure you can come up with something. I know many of the kids I used to baby sit it involved bath, quiet time (playing, tv, etc), brushing their teeth, reading stories (in the bedroom with lights dim), then putting on music and going to bed.
I'm not sure how this really works for an 8 week old, but just pick a routine and then modify as you need it to.
Here is our routine; sometimes it starts about 1/2 hour earlier, but almost never later:
6:45 pm Start running a bath/Addie gets quiet playtime with Daddy
7:00 pm Addie gets a bath (we only wash her with soap a couple times a week)
7:15 pm Massage with lotion/listen to music with the lights off
7:30 pm Addie's dressed and ready for her last bottle
7:40 pm Finish bottle and rock to sleep. She's out by 8:00 at the latest.
Oh don't ever worry about it being too late!!!! I know that they call it a "routine" but over the course of the next few years you will have many routines. My son is two and we try to do the same thing every night. (bedtime snack @7, Bath @7:30, book @8 then bedtime @8:30) This does change sometimes though. For instance when he is sick there is pretty much no routine what so ever. He is just not the same kid. When we go out of town our routine is all messed up. Although everwhere we go overnight we bring his pillow and security blanket. I strongly suggest having your baby get attached to a certian blanket or stuffed animal for the very reason that it makes night time away from home SOOO much easier!
Since your baby is so young and learning to adapt to the outside world, don't get too discouraged when you think you have a routine going and out of nowhere baby doesn't want to cooperate. Just keep at it!!! Good Luck!!!!
This is Charlie's routine:
7:00 - Bath
7:15 - Diaper, Moisturize, Put on long sleeve onesie and sleep sack
7:20 - Bottle
7:30 - Put in crib awake but drowsy. He usually rolls over and goes to sleep.
It's not too late to start a bedtime routine! Charlie's routine is so ingrained, he hasn't had any trouble with sleeping in hotels. Fingers crossed it remains that way!
Here's ours
7:30 bath and night clothes
7:45 book (we almost always read the same one!)
7:50 swaddle (all hail the SwaddleMe!)
7:50-8 night time snack and sleep (when it comes) She's usually asleep by 10! We love our night dragon!
hmmm... sometime between 7 and 8 our little one starts to get fussy, so that means he's tired, so I get him changed into jammies, we get into bed, (we have bath time in the afternoon) read a story and I nurse him to sleep. The whole thing usually takes about a half an hour. It's not a hardcore routine but it works for us!

So, I should've researched this by now, but CoWBoy is 8 weeks old today, and we really need to get on a routine! All 3 of us have had a cold, so it probably wasn't the right time to start, but now I feel like I'm behind!
