    Hi Bees-

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a tailor to get my wedding dress altered? I've talked to Pinpoint Bridal and Ellen's Couture and both quoted me WELL over $500...Anyone got a cheaper option they could recommend to me?? I don't care where in the city they are located...

    Thanks!!!

I think it depends on what you need done to the dress...I used Eddie Ugras at 125 w 72nd street and he did a great job on mine.  I needed a full hem, a bustle put in, and a hook and an eye.  He did it for 200.  the bustle is invisible and looks great.  I live right by there, so I just looked for the tailor with the best reviews and reasonable prices close to me... his number is 212-595-1596

I checked with Ally Tailors about converting my neckline and what she quoted me (sight unseen since I don't actually have the dress yet...) seemed resonable, <$150.  The same alteration from RK Bridal if I'd bought the dress there would have been $130-ish.  http://www.allytailors.com/

We discussed over email (huge plus for me since I HATE using the phone) and she seemed very nice and easy to deal with.

Let me know if you find any other good options!!

I've been raving about Lai's Royal Tailoring for almost a year now here on wedding bee. She's based out of Chinatown and her English isn't that great but she does an amazing and efficient job for a lot less $. I altered my all over lace gown for around $120. I had been quoted over $400 elsewhere in Manhattan.

Call Jimmy the Tailor (917) 612-8826 you will not regret it. He will come to your apartment to measure and is a true artist. He worked for Saks for years and will give you a fair price. Jimmy is so sweet I actually enjoy having him over to alter my clothing whereas it used to be a chore! I can't recommend him enough as you can see:)
