Have you ever seen The Miracle of Birth? It's terrifying, but I think it is somewhat what you are looking for. Or what about watching TLC's A baby story or Discovery Channel's birthday series?
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/body/life-greatest-miracle.html
@PitBulLover: Thanks so much for the links! I just watched the first 15 minutes or so and I think The Miracle of Birth is somewhat what I'm aiming towards - corniness aside!
I was hoping for something a little more modern though - anybody else know of anything?
I've seen the Life's Greatest Miracle and it' sby far the BEST I've seen on the whole process. =)
@amnystik: Thanks for your input! I'm about 25 minutes in and it's already traumatizing me!
Still open to suggestions!
You tube has some pretty amazing home birth videos from legit midwifery Vlogs for that aspect. As far as gestation , the other Bees named a few great ones!
I might have to check these out, I think DH is pretty clueless when it comes to childbirth (based off his reaction to A Baby Story...)
This movie isn't exactly educational, but it's extremely sweet and comforting to watch: "Babies."
@maggierose: I havve seen TBOBB. I enjoyed it, but the midwife vs. hospital aspect isn't exactly what I'm looking for to watch with DH. It was a GREAT documentary though!
@eurekaanchovies: I heard about that one! I'l have to check it out. It would be nice to just see a sweet one :)
I can't image Life's Greatest Miracle is the only one out there!?
I second the recommendations for "Life's Greatest Miracle." When we watched it my husband paused the movie every 5 minutes to say, wow, I didn't know that! I was like, seriously, did you skip 8th grade health class??? But it is great.
"The Business of Being Born" is an excellent documentary if you are interested in midwifery or natural birth empowerment - I loved it and felt that I learned a lot, but I would not show it to my husband. It's really graphic and does not discuss what actually happens during conception and pregnancy.
@MissMaine: Oh, it's incredibly sweet. It follows four babies in four different parts of the world from birth to age 1. It's amazing to see the different living conditions and how each baby really does end up just fine. We loved watching it.
THE GREAT SPERM RACE!!!! It's funny, informative, and PERFECT for watching with the hubs so he "gets it." It's actually in multiple parts on youtube. DH and I watched it together and he really liked it!
ETA: It's more about the process of getting pregnant than pregnancy/birth but either way I highly recommend it!
@AvantLaLettre: THANK YOU! This is EXACTLY what I was looking for! You're the best!
Have you seen 'In the Womb'? It's fabulous, if you love a good doco. It's also in YouTube!
@jaguar: Something told me to check this thread today! Jag, you're the best! I just previewed it but DH and I will be watching this one tonight. Thanks!
@MrsMaine: Enjoy! I watched the British one from the BBC, but there's also a US voice over one too, I believe?
I'm mid-way through 'The Great Sperm Race' too. Love documentaries!

Bees!
I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations for informational/documentary type pregnancy/birth process movies?
We're not pregnant yet (actually just getting over a chemical pregnancy), but I would like to sit down and watch one with DH, just so he has a better idea of what the hell goes on in my body every month, how exactly you get pregnant (no, not THAT, but the science behind it haha!) , the pregnancy journey, and the labor/delivery process (live birth footage?).
I know all this stuff since we're facing infertility issues and I've done gobs of research, but when I try to explain it all to him it just comes out in jibberish. Poor guy sometimes has no idea what I'm talking about :(
And, I already watched "The Business of Being Born". Not exactly what I was looking for...
Anyone?
