Hey my FI and parents and I are going on a trip to Kentucky and Tennessee next week. Does anyone have any recommendations of local restaurants in Nashville or Memphis that we should visit, or any other sites? Its only a one week trip and we’re planning on visiting Mammoth Caves, the Makers Mark distillery, the original Grand Ole Opry, and Graceland. We aren’t really big country music fans we’re just interested in seeing this part of the States and my parents have been before and really liked it.

I live in Memphis. What kind of food do y’all like? Some of the usual restaurants I take visitors to are Central BBQ and Gus’ Fried Chicken. But there’s plenty more. Especially if you’re not necessarily looking for the “traditional” southern fare like fried foods and bbq. :p

Casablanca on Poplar – Mediterranean Food
Memphis Pizza Cafe – pizza/salad. Several locations (Madison ave, farmington blvd, poplar. google it)
Flight – FANCY A$$ DINING. You may want to look up the menu, they serve all their entrees, drinks, and desserts in sets of three (called a flight).
Texas de Brazil – all u can eat meat, salad bar also available. ~$50/person but i mean…it’s all u can eat steaks, prime ribs, etc. Even though I made it sound like a buffet, it’s classier than that. Google it.
Kooky Kanuk’s – Big burgers. Normal american food.
Hueys – More burgers. With fried onions in them. ’nuff said. Several locations
Sheridan’s Frozen Custard – Love frozen custard. I’ve had better in St. Louis, but this isn’t bad at all. Out in Cordova, but it’s not too far of a drive for a little dessert.
Chipotle – chipotle is good wherever you are… poplar ave.
Kwik Chek – JANKY hole in the wall. Serves Mediterranean (Gyro), sandwiches, and korean. The Bibimbap is to DIE for. Gyra is very good too.
I’m sure I’ll come up with more. I basically make it my business to eat delicious food as often as possible…Private message me if you like!

The Beauty Shop – classy and DELICIOUS. Some of the dishes can be kind of rich, but I LOVE the duck. Their red velvet cake is the best I’ve EVER had. I grew up in the San Francisco bay area, and if there’s anything that they love in California, it’s their cake filled with Red 40. So I know my way around a red velvet cake.
Alchemy – another little classy place. They serve tapas sized dishes, very innovative menu. Desserts are very good as well. Their bartender is heavy handed. 😉

@Mewcakes: Thank you so much! This is such a good list to work with. We like most types of food, except I don’t like Indian (FI loves it). We do want some bbq because we don’t get much of that in Toronto, but we can’t eat 21 meals of it I’d say. The Chipotle rec is hilarious because my fiance would live off Chipotle if he could.
@axeyourmakeupkit: Thank you! I think we should actually be in Nashville over the next weekend so its great to have a brunch rec.

I actually just got back from a trip to kentucky and tennesee on Monday!
We went to Mammoth Caves in Kentucky and it was awesome! I didn’t think I would like a cave but it was so cool to see.
In Tennesee we stayed on music row and I reccommend Rippys and Jacks for some real good BBQ. We also went to Dicks Last Resort, its one of those restaurants that are service with sarcasm where they are rude to you and stuff. It was so much fun there and the food was really good.
We only went for like 3 days, I wish we went for more there was so much stuff I didn’t get to see and eat!
