I think Adobe has downloadable 30-day trials on their website....I think...90% sure. Have you looked at that? Might be *just* enough to get you through :-). I don't know of any free programs, since i've always used the Adobe CS. But i'm sure there's a bee out there that could give you more info!
Thanks for the tip. I thought about using a trial, but I am worried that he will ask for further modifications down the road and I won't have access to the program I used. Then I will be in the same spot trying to find something to work.
You could always re-download the trial on a different computer if you get desperate (my husband and I have 3 computers between us). Do any of your friends have these programs? Also, the student versions are really cheap, if you know someone with an ID, you could purchase just Photoshop student edition for pretty cheap.
I always found that InDesign was better to manipulate text with than Photoshop. I don't mean to come off as rude, but maybe you're just not as familiar with the program? If that's not the case, I would have him buy Photoshop since you're comfortable with it and he's offering to pay!
I agree that InDesign defintely offers better text manipulation, but as far as I know, it only produces InDesign files rather than image files. In the end, I need an image file that can be placed in a Word doc, etc. I guess I should have mentioned that in my original message. Sorry! That has been my biggest problem: finding a program that offer image and text manipulation and that also allows me to save as an image file.
Thanks for all of the comments so far.
@rachel_leigh: Oh, okay, I'm with you now. The creative suite is so flipping annoying sometimes because it seems like you need to have all of them in order to get anything accomplished. Sorry, I always worked with it at school and I would just copy/paste stuff into Illustrator, I think, to make it an image file.

Long story short: My boss fired the guy he hired to design our new logo and he dumped finishing up the project on me. I have some experience with design programs, but not a lot. In the past I have used Photoshop (which used to be on my laptop at home, but it has since died) and we also have InDesign on my computer now. While I have the image file for the logo available to me, I am having trouble finding a program that will let me incorporate editable text with this image. I have mostly been using open source programs (gimp, inkscape) but none of these offer the minute text editing that was so wonderful in Photoshop.
So my question is: Does anyone have any recommendations for free programs that will give me the capability to manipulate both images and text easily? My boss has said that he would pay for a new program, so would I be better off just asking him to buy Photoshop? Or is there another program that would be a better investment for this type of task in the Adobe suite or otherwise? I am unsure how often I will need to use the program in the future; it could be just this one time thing or possibly more often if he likes what I do.
Any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks!
