This is my first post on here, so hopefully some good comes out of it!
My fiance and I are getting married on a farm in Hillsborough, NC in late May 2015 and we’re looking for a cheap and delicious caterer for buffet-style food. We’re having a relatively casual affair, and absolutely do not want plated food or servers or anything like that. So far, I really haven’t been able to find anything for less than $20 a person, which seems crazy to me. Does anyone have an recommendations for a place with good food that is more casual? I’ve looked up vendor reviews, but they all seem like they’re all plated/servers and not the casual/family feel we’re looking for.
Any hints or suggestions would be greatly appreciated 🙂

If you’re open to BBQ, any BBQ restaurant will be very affordable. I have a friend who used The Q Shack for their wedding in Chapel Hill and I don’t think they paid over $20 a head. It was definitely more casual than other receptions, but they still did a nice buffet and had servers.
Also, look into food trucks. There are tons which do catering and can bring their trucks out to your event. I don’t know if they could be found for under $20 per head, but the prices are definitely better than a lot of traditional wedding caterers (and for better tasting food, IMO). Our caterer was a food truck and they charged $23 pp for a 2-entree buffet, with additional charges for appetizers or extra entree choices.

We’re using Visions Catering who is based out of the Triad, but I know they cater events in the Raleigh/Chapel Hill/Durham area as well. I went to our tasting and their food is beyond delicious and priced great at around $20 a head for a buffet dinner. I even changed our venue so we could have them as our caterers. They’re definitely worth checking out.
