My finace and I decided that we’re going to record a CD for wedding favors. We aren’t going to make a mixed CD, but we’re actually going to play all the music, sing, record, mix, and design the entire thing by ourselves.
I’m looking for good duets! But.. not necessarily sappy love songs.
I’m open to suggestions and looking for advice if you or anyone you know has done this before!

oh man i wish my fiance and i were talented in the musical department, because this is a GREAT idea!
one of the most awesome weddings circulating the blogs right now had cds as the favor that the bride and groom recorded!

What a great idea! Too bad neither FI nor I can sing… and he’s a drummer. Not much you can do with just drums and terrible singing 🙂 hehe.
As for suggestions…
What about L-O-V-E or Unforgettable by Natalie Cole? I think they are both so wonderful and do well as duets (she did them both as a duet with her father originally I believe). They aren’t sappy either 🙂
Best of Luck,

Don’t Go Breakin’ My Heart! It’s so happy and wedding-appropriate. Sweet rather than sappy.
My guy and I are thinking about making a cd, but just for fun since we’re both singers/musicians. You could write your own songs if you’re feeling ambitious. A bottle of wine and a little romance is excellent inspiration…it’s worked for us at least, haha. 🙂

what about Lucky by Colbie Caillat and Jason Mraz?
Marvin Gaye has done some good duets: It Takes Two, You’re All I need to Get By (I’d definitely try this one if my FI could carry a tune, or really stay in just one key!!), and I’m sure there are others.
Others that are bordering on sappy/ totally sappy are:
It’s Your Love by Faith Hill and Tim McGraw
All I Ask of You from Phantom of the Opera
The Prayer (not sure if you do opera :))
Suddenly Seymore from Little Shop of Horrors (try to find the youtube video with Mandy Moore for a concert version)
Will You Marry Me? by Alabama and Jann Arden
