Once upon a time, in 2005 maybe, EJS bought a very modest black dress. It wasn't too tight, it had a boatneck, a keyhole back, and hit just slightly above the knee.

"It's very understated career!" she said, in her naivety of receiving too many victoria secret magazines with the too-sexy-for-the-office-LBD. Hence, the $10 Target thrift rack find has never been worn. It's not sexy enough to wear out, yet too sexy to wear to work. "What a conundrum" she lamented and so it sat in her closet for 4 years.

"I know! I''ll make it a mini dress! It'll be fierce!"  Measurement was taken to the front of the thigh. "Perfect! It's just sexy enough".

Cut, cut, cut. Retry. Except with a light breeze the world will be able to see her butt. Oops. Too short

Off to Hancock fabrics she went and bought $13.99/yard dress trim. "I bought 2 yards. This better be wearable dammit," she muttered. Since when is trim costlier than the dress? When it's really lovely, that's when.

She slowly pinned it and zig-zagged stitched it on with her sewing machine. Put it on again. "Whew. All better!" she decided. "Now i have a dress to wear OUT friday night!"

I still gotta wear me some black spandex shorts, though!!! Or tights when fall comes. Now....do I add matching trim to the arm? Or just leave it? It does have that keyhole back....not sure if the arm trim is too much or if it's just right. And yes it's flippin short as hell on me. I'm not kidding about the black spandex shorts just to be safe. Whaddaya think? I'm pretty excited about this. I know my $10 dress just became $40+ though.

Ok Your post made me seriously LOL!!!!!

I voted no trim on the arms - I think it is perfect the way it is!

It is a bit short so I am glad you are wearing some spandex but I think it's a perfect little black dress for a Friday night out with a long necklace or big earrings!!

Do you have a cat? Those are some nice scratches on your thigh!!!!!!

HAHA thanks! I felt creative suddenly.

Yes it is too short but I'd hate to waste all that effort now! It was an inexpensive lesson learned to measure the BACK not the thigh, when you hem. I don't want to be pulling a Paris Hilton Panty Incident by any means! Plus, tights for fal.l Yippee! I'm thinking purple would be really funky =]

Yes, my little smooshie cat turned into a tazmanian devil during a nail trimming while the other one got particularly naughty and knocked something off a table and scared the bajeezers out of him while he was in my lap. Nice. I have a few prize-winning gashes on my stomach and chest and arms, too. He told me he was sorry though =]

OOooooo yessssss. Originally I had planned to NOT add trim and wear a belt with it. Which scrunched it up to super hoochie length, hence the need to hit up the fabric store. But with something this short, i'm really glad the skin flash is in the back not the front! I really wanted to wear it with hot pink tights this friday buuuuut it's not quite cool enough to justify that =]

heheheheh... i instantly put my granny hat on and thought 'sweetie, darling... where is the rest of your dress' as i attempted to pull down the hem from half way around the world.....

my only thoughts are to wear killer black high heeled boots and be sure to send a pic to your hubby :)

@eloping, when I did the bend and snap test, I got a nice bright pink flash of my undies so the granny hat is totally justified Tongue out

Oh yes, add the trim! It makes the dress really cute and put together.

I would leave the sleeves trim-less.  Also, I don't think it's too short at all for going out.  It'll look really cute with a statement necklace or earrings.  Great job!

@eloping haha! I'd make a comment here about how i was being skankalicious, but that's actually the sketti strap tank top i had on for bed time! I don't own a red bra...but I should.....Innocent

@meowkers, it's only too short if i actually bend over, haha! If i stand perfectly still we're good =]

I guess I'll leave the straps alone and rock a fun necklace instead! thx everyone =]
