If I saw the heartbeat, does that mean the miscarriage rate has now dropped?

I woke up this morning bleeding bright bed. Went to the ER. They drew blood, did a songram. 3.5 hrs later we finally got an answer: hormones levels are where they should be, baby is measuring on-target and has a heartbeat of 127! Bleeding has stopped. I really hope this is the most stressful thing I have to go through with pregnancy until the actual labor part, this morning I thought for sure it was all over.

Yikes!  I'm so sorry you had to deal with that.  Did they find any reason for the bleeding?  One of my friends has a condition that causes her to bleed profusely from time to time during her pregnancy.  It's very scary, but as long as the baby is ok that's the most important thing!

Thanks for the support everyone! :)

They didn't give me a reason for the bleeding. One of the nurses said something about sometimes especially in first pregnancies that blood vessels can rupture down there or something. Since I hadn't had any more bleeding, the doctor that was seeing me said he didn't want to do a pelvic exam because he didn't think it would give him any more information and could possibly just cause more bleeding that would scare me.

I hope I don't have any more bleeding. It was very scary, and I was thinking about how crappy a start to the new year would be if it was bad news. Lots of crying today, both scared tears and tears of joy/releif when they said so far everything looks okay.

I never expected pregnancy being so stressful!

@abbyful: I know EXACTLY what you are going through. The exact same thing happened to me on Christmas Eve! My brown spotting turned to bright red bleeding, but I had just been to the ER two days before for the spotting and the nurse said she thought everything was still okay based on the info i was giving her. I'm super nervous for my next apt. but I have faith everything will be okay. I never realized pregnancy could be so stressful either and that Xmas Eve was one of the worst things I ever had to go through. My husband was in another country at the time... just sucked. Hang in there girl, some of us unlucky ones just bleed I guess, but I'm glad you got good news!

    Thanks again for the well-wishes!

DH & I haven't had sex since before Christmas. (I know, poor guy, I don't like to do it when we're visiting at either of our parents' house; and with my brown-spotting earlier in the week last week, I had told him I didn't want to until that stopped.) The ER said no sex until my OB gives the all-clear.

It wasn't like a little dribble of red blood either, it was what looked to me like a significant amount in the toilet when I got up to pee that morning. But apparently it all came at once, so I think perhaps the nurse's suggestion of breaking a blood vessel was correct.

I'm looking forward to my first visit with my OB on Friday! Hopefully they'll do an ultrasound too, the one they did at the ER they didn't let DH in the room, he was disappointed he didn't get to see the baby. (And so far baby is only visible on the "dildo cam", the regular over-the-stomach ultrasound could see the sack but not the baby yet.)
