My boyfriend and I are going on a “fancy date” tonight, and I have this adorable black dress with little white polka dots to wear. I really want to wear red lipstick with it because it looks so cute together, but I don’t wear lipstick much and I have never worn it for dinner. I don’t want it to come off while I am eating. Are there any bees who wear lipstick regularly who have tips/tricks to keep it from coming off?

I have a cream lipstain from Sephora, if I want to wear red lipstick I wear that haha
It stays on for hours. Though it tends to come off a bit with oily foods. :/
Generally, red lip liner goes underneath the lipstick to help it stick, then some people use powder to set that before they put the lipstick over it. There are plenty of tutorials online!

If you want your lip color to stay put, there are several ways you can accomplish that. There are lipsticks that are formulated specifically to not come off without your deliberately removing them. As I recall, Revlon makes a product like that (or used to anyway). Perhaps there are others.
Another trick is to use a lip liner and actually fill-in your lips completely with the heavily pigmented liner prior to applying a good lipstick in a similar tone. This is something that I do, but I usually wear a neutral lipcolor rather than a bold color such as red.
Finally, if you’re careful in what you order and in the manner in which you eat, your lipcolor will have a greater chance of lasting throughout dinner.

@nottoocool4school: If I wear red lipstick I use an old pinup trick- you have to line your lips with the red liner, then fill it in as well. The liner once dry, generally stays on a zillion times better than the lipstick itself. I’ve also used lipstains but I get chapped lips really easy & they just made it way more noticeable.

@CakeyP: +1 for that red lipstain from sephora. lasts forever!

@BeckyS0: I also get really chapped lips and have the same problem. Have you tried the burt’s bees with the stain? The colour is lovely AND it helps with the chapped lips. Since I started using it my lips have been super soft.
@nottoocool4school: There are loads of lip stains out there that you’ll have to scrub off the next morning! I’ve used the Revlon and Cover Girl versions for nights out. They do tend to dry my lips out though, so I use them sparingly.

@sostobe: I haven’t tried that yet but I LOVE burts bees- it’s pretty much the only lipstick type stuff I wear! I’ll have to check it out when I make my CVS run later today!

@nottoocool4school: I use MAC’s Ruby Woo. It’s matte so i can eat porkchops, mashed potatoes, pancakes, drink out of a glass, kiss my SO, and its still on there at 6 pm even if i Put it on at 8 am. and im not kidding, it lasts all day. I line with their cork liner.
And some might recommened a primer as your base, however, I dont use it. I usually just put a lip balm underneath such as Blistex, and do a really thin coat just to protect my lips.

@BeckyS0: Let me know how you like it! I have the ruhbarb. It’s redder than I’d usually wear, but I’m terrible at picking lipstick colours. I do love it though. I need to go back to pick up a pink one. 🙂

I also have that cream stain. I like it – it’s very bright, though. The filling in the lips with lipliner is also a good trick.
Also, you can apply the lipstick (ideally over your lips filled in with lip pencil) – push it in with a lip brush if you have one – wait a bit and blot it with a tissue. Then apply it again.
Some will come off, but it won’t be the end of the world! 🙂 Have fun!

Liner with red lipstick is key! First as others mentioned fill in your entire lips because this helps with staying power and even if your lipstick rubs off you still have the liner. And secondly you need liner because it helps you get crisp edges. Red lipstick can look great when it’s put on correctly but a hot mess if its not!
You can also powder your lipstick for extra staying power. Once you put on your lipstick, rip apart a tissue so its a single layer. Put the tissue to your lips and apply a translucent powder with a brush through the tissue. You can then apply one more coat of lipstick on top of that. That lipstick won’t go anywhere!
I also think the brand you are using makes a difference. MAC’s lipssticks are great for staying power.
