Anyone else being met with the term "hussy" when choosing to wear colored shoes? My mother apparently thinks that the shoes  NO. ONE. WILL. SEE. are making me look like a street walker. Thoughts and opinions on how to deal with this? Any great arguments or websites I can show her to prove that other women do this? I mean seriously look at these shoes...

No advice but I seriously heart those shoes :)

..And I'm not sure what "hussy" would be classy enough to wear a pair of Stuart Weitzmans.

Shoes don't make a girl slutty, a girl makes shoes slutty.

    :p

Otherwise, they are just hot. :p

No!  Think Sassy instead!  There are lots of great colored shoe photos in the gallery section.

    Those shoes are awesome.

Look at site like Style Me Pretty and show your Mom how many brides are doing this.

Well I haven't actually been called THAT, but I seem to be the only one of my friends who has EVER heard of wearing shoes that aren't white.  It blows my mind, really. LOL. I do google image searches for "colored wedding shoes" and tons of pics come up that I share with them.....but somehow they still don't get it. Maybe it's a top-secret only brides know about it thing. LOL. I'm just doing it anyway, and they can just continue to think I'm crazy!

Those are fantastic shoes.  My mom didn't think colored shoes would make me look like a hussy, but she didn't understand why I wanted to wear them.  Both she and my sister were kind of shocked/horrified when I brought up the idea, so I eventually just went with ivory shoes, because it was easier than fighting them on it.

Haha!  When I saw the subject of your post, I was wondering if you were talking to my Grandma!  Hussy is such an old-fashioned term.

I totally think a punch of color peeking out from under your dress will look great.

Fun and unique is red shoes peeking out.  Hussy is red thong peeking out!

Those shoes are awesome! I am biased, though - I freaking love red shoes! Poo on the Hussy thing ...

My mom thinks it's silly to wear colored shoes - some things you just have to say "It's my wedding, get over it."

I love red. Love shoes. Love those red shoes. Tell your mom it is ok. You'll try really hard not to be a hussy on your wedding day

@honeybun: that's really funny because even before I came into the world of weddingbee and weddingblogs I never even considered white shoes for my wedding. White satin shoes just aren't my thing. I prefore the 5 inch, insanely bright and colorful patent leather shoe :)

Yeah I don't understand how the color of your shoe can make you slutty.  Those shoes are hot and you should definitely wear them if you want to.  Google colored wedding shoes and show your mom the million and one pictures that come up.  And if she still doesn't by into it, who cares.  She's not the one wearing them. You're a big girl, you can decide what to wear.

@rosychicklet I think I'm going to use that as my defense. I also fowarded her a link to a google search of "colored wedding shoes. Great ideas all! I don't care if she likes them or not I'm wearing those awesome red shoes regardless but I wanted her to at least kind of open her mind to the idea :o)

I am a new member, this is my first post- hope I am doing it right! I am wearing colored shoes, probably red ones. AND I am going to have a short dress so everyone will see the shoes. I hear tons of negative comments on my shoe/dress choices but you have to brush them off because its just my style and you want to feel like YOU on your wedding day, just a fabulous, glamorous version of you and if you ask me red shoes are definitely fabulous

I mean, if they were clear acrylic platforms with goldfish in them, they would be excellent hussy shoes. Those red ones are lovely and classy.

(Would someone please wear clear acrylic platforms with goldfish in them? I think they would be hilarious.)

Haha, it's just a lack of immersion in the wedding-obsessed world.  And maybe a bit of an old-fashioned notion about the color red.  Seriously, those are some classy shoes.

    re this thread: http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/australia-brides-need-help-attaining-dream-shoes

considering i mailed tinybride her hot red shoes yesterday i say they are not hussy at all and all the girls in my office were desiring them

i did have to explain to them that the in thing is to wear coloured shoes for weddings these days and they didnt know about that so maybe its a matter of mom not knowing whats fashionable these days

but once i explained the fashion of wearing coloured shoes with your gown all the ladies here said wow, what a great idea. Red shoes with a wedding gown is hot not hussy

Hehehe... do people still use the word "hussy"?

And no, red shoes do not a hussy make. Slutty behavior, yes. Red shoes, no.

That's funny! I agree with mouse, if you aren't hip to the wedding scene- a lot of the things we're planning would seem strange to "outsiders". lol my mom thought it was strange when I told her I wanted blue wedding shoes :)

I just posted on my blog about something similar. My FI had a panic attack when he saw my wedding shoes were blue... he thought I'd bought them to match my (non-existant) blue wedding dress! haha.

Those shoes are completely fabulous!! Luckily, all my family (including both grandmothers) thought my colored shoes were a great idea. And both my grandmothers are pretty old-fashioned! So - definitely not hussy.. and definitely fabulous!

I already bought my red shoes, so I hope no one thinks I look like a tramp in them on wedding day.  Although, if they do, to hell with 'em.

    Those shoes are gorgeous.

I say you show your mom this post.

My family didn't appreciate my colored shoes but did eventually grow to love them. I think it's hard for the older generation to embrace anything thats not tradition. Give your mom some time, hopefully she'll come around. I LOVE the shoes you picked!

I totally agree what HUSSY would be wearing Stuart Weitzman Shoes? I think that its your wedding day and you may not see them when your walking down the isle but they will be a fun prop in pictures!! Your Hubby will also enjoy taking them off you at the end of the night!! Adds a little fun to your day:)

Wearing red has nothing to do with being a hussy. Wear the shoes if you want and ignore the negative comments. Chances are, with most wedding dresses being floor length, no one will even see them so they won't be able to criticize them.
