I’m thinking of changing my choice of flavor from red velvet to devil’s food. I’m also having almond cake and white chocolate hazelnut. I thought I wanted red velvet but I realized it doesn’t really taste like much to me! I haven’t had devil’s food but I’ve heard it’s very similar. Does it just have richer chocolate flavor? For those who have had it, would you recommend it over Red Velvet? Share your opinions.

I don’t really care for chcolate cake- but I love red velvet! Yummm! However if I was attending your wedding, I would most def. have the almond cake! Yum! Almond is my favorite dessert flavor!

Devil’s food is a lot richer than red velvet. Honestly, I’m not a big fan of it. But I’m just one person, lol, so do what you want! 🙂

How about yellow cake w/ chocolate frosting? Hahaha, that is my absolute favorite.
Isn’t Devil’s Food similar to chocolate? I may be wrong; I’m not really a fan of both. BUT I LOVE RED VELVET! Cream cheese icing…yum yum yum yum yummmmm.

They are pretty similar, though it varies depending on who makes the cake. The big difference is the frosting. Devil’s food usually has chocolate and red velvet has cream cheese. Can you have a tasting and have a side-by-side comparison?
Without tasting, I’d go with the devil’s food just because I’ve had some bad experiences with red velvet cakes that were just a devil’s food cake anyway with food coloring….and the food coloring gave it just a hint of an off taste. Besides, I like chocolate frosting better than cream cheese..but that’s just my opinion.

Devil’s food for sure! Red Velvet has all of a sudden become popular, but I’ve never found it to be very tasty. I think it’s all of the dye.

I’ve had red velvet and devils food cake and I don’t care for Devils food at all. It’s TOO rich and with frosting, yuck. :/ Red Velvet is definitely better in my opinion.

I had red velvet and loved it, but my baker was so worried the color would bleed through the white icing. I had to sign a waiver and everything (it ended up totally fine). So if you’re on the fence and are wanting white icing (in August especially) you might go devils food. For some reason the chocolate was fine (I guess, she never mentioned anything about that layer)? The red vevlet was so delicious though, and if I were choosing on taste red velvet for sure!

How can you go wrong with either!!?? But if it were a life or death situation and I must chose, I may just side ever so slightly with red velvet.

I’m shocked that so many people don’t like devil’s food cake!!! But then I’m the person who likes the richest, most chocolatey cake there is. I would vote for DF, because you are having two other non-chocolate options. Give the chocoholics a little love! 🙂
