I'd say you should totally do some strawberry blonde highlights! Do some research before you go in, printing out any colors you find you would like and take em into your stylist. Keep in mind that even if a color is on the whole head, you can do it all over!
I know how you feel...
My hair is more autumn in color but I have bright red chunky highlights that frame my face (all natural). My mom is a true red-head and I've always wanted my hair the color of my highlights.
I once asked a colorist about dying or adding highlights and I was told that red is the most difficult color. It's the hardest color for hair to take and the hardest hair color to dye a new color. Needless to say-I never had mine colored or highlighted.
I think you should talk to your stylist. He/she would best know your hair but make sure you have someone with a lot of experince in coloring. Not all stylists are good with highlighting and coloring.
Best of luck!
I have a deeper natural red color, and have gotten blond highlights a couple times...thin highlights not chunky. I love the way they turn out!
I'm the exact same way! Red in winter, more blonde in summer. I've been using John Freida Go Blonder shampoo and conditioner. Try that before you spend all the money on highlights at a stylist. I found that it just pulls out my blonde highlights and gives me a bit more color, I love it! Its like $8 a bottle at CVS, but must cheaper than getting your hair done. It took about a week for me to notice the results a lot though.

I am a red head (more of an auburn) but I have always really wanted a bit more dimension in color for my hair. I love the strawberry-blonde look - but I'm trying to attain something in between auburn and strawberry blonde. In the summer I (usually) get these great natural blonde highlights on top, but this summer I won't be outside as much as usual due to work. SO I'm thinking about putting some blonde highlights in via my hair stylist.
Do any of you have advice on what works and what doesn't?? I'm a complete color virgin and have no idea!
TIA!
