I did Williams Sonoma and Macys. only cuz a) macy';s is really easy for everyone to get to from wherever they are and b) i heart super fancy kitchen stuff and am a gourmet foodie. Granted i got like, 5 things off my registry there, but now i get 10% off until feb 2010 and i just love thier stuff, man! Macy's is good for a lot of random appliances (as is BBB) but WS is good for like, gourmet foodie little knick knacks all cool kinda stuff. And the best cookbooks!
We did WS, BBB, Macy's and Sur La Table -- no complaints about any of them (yet -- and hopefully we won't have any issues at all!).
Yeah, I was really tempted to register at Williams Sonoma for all the fancy stuff, too. We may end up just registering for a few things there but keep BB&B as our main registry.
We did BBB, WS and Amazon and are in love with all 3! BBB and WS are great stores for people to go in to. and Amazon is great for people who plan ahead or are coming from OOT!
I registed at BB&B, smarthoneymoon & JC Penny. the only reason I did JC Penny was to get the big huge wedding planner (that I never use btw) and the free engagement photo (which we haven't redeemed). LOL So, I'm thinking of replacing JC Penny with WS & Macy's. One of our GM wants me to register at Macy's bc he gets a discount. LOL
my fiance and i have several mini registrations! haha but the one we are really sticking with is Kohls, because they have some pretty good stuff, and they aren't too pricy which is a big factor because most of his family doesn't have a lot of money
I also registered at BB&B on Saturday and am stoked about the free things I am getting because I registered for a certain brand! Also, the sales lady told me that if all the items are not purchased then we get 10% off ALL items after the wedding, pretty cool!!
We did Bed Bath and Beyond, Pampered Chef, and Wishpot.com. So far, we are happy with all three!
I think it may be OK to register in multiple places but it really depends on where your guests live and if any of the above stores are located near them.
We registered at BBB (there are BBB's everywhere), Crate and Barrel (for the guests living near me) and Target. My only complaint is that I registered online for Target and pretty much everything I wanted from them was an online only purchase which doesn't help the gift givers who want to go to the store. I wish they had more variety. Oh and I heard Target's return policy is a nightmare.
I did Macys and BBB. BBB is obviously amazing. Great policies. But Macys has the better completion program and will give you a percentage of the cost of gifts from your registry and any money you charge to your macys card back after your wedding in the form of a gift card. Pretty sweet deal.
I chose to register at BBB. I specifically chose NOT to register at Macys. We went through BBB first, before going to Macys. When we went to Macys, we saw many of the SAME EXACT things we had seen at BBB, only significantly marked up. So while BBB doesn't really have a great completion program, it doesn't matter because even with the completion discount, Macys is so marked up.
Also, BBB continues to take their 20% off coupons long after they have expired. I just cashed in 12 the other day. I'm having my family hoard them before and after the wedding.
We registered at BBB, Macy's and Target. We didn't have many real problems, other than a couple of relatively pushy consultants.
We registered at BBB! Also at Target.... I haven't had to deal with either of them as far as returning items, but so far I've had a good experience with both.
@ LindseyMarie: I'm in San Diego, too! I wonder if we registered at the same BBB a day apart? And we're month twins! Haha, I'm all excited. :) And yeah, I registered for everything I could possibly find that was Calphalon brand just to earn the gift cards. haha.
@ chicagobride: what kind of completion discount does Macy's have? BBB has a 10% discount and they even have events every three months where you can get 20% off. Is Macys' better than that? Ohh, and hoarding the coupons is a fantastic idea! You can use more than one in one transaction?? (for diff. items of course)
We love our BB&B registry. It's the brick and mortar store that has everything. I don't think most people realize that BB&B offers a lot of the same "fancy" stuff as Williams Sonoma, but with the 20% off coupon (Le Creuset, Allclad, Wusthof... etc) We also did Macy's because I wanted the Martha Stewart dinnerware, and Amazon.com for the stuff that you just can't find at other stores.
I worked at BB&B. Bridal consultants are heavily trained. They do know their products well (I was a product training manager and a bridal consultant). We would also "stalk" people as they were scanning to check the number of items and registry dollar value. So scanning each pan really helped Patrick's numbers! (Not that it is bad...they are running a business!) They do know their stuff, but having once worked there, I just went in and grabbed a scanner. I didn't need the canned presentation. The coupons are good though. But I was told they will be getting more strict with restrictions on them, which they can now do since Linens N Things is gone. My main reason for choosing to register there is just that they have everything we need.
Yes, you can use multiple coupons on different items in one transaction, even when they are expired. You just can't stack them on the same item, otherwise everything would be free.
They used that as a major selling point for registering there, so if they take that practice back before my registry is done I may just complain until I get my way (i.e. what I was promised).
My fiance refused to register at BB&B on general principle. He's a mail carrier and their constant adverts are the bane of his existance. We registered with Target, and no problems so far. We also have a registry at wishpot.com.
We didn't register at BB&B because it was just too inconvenient for our guests. There are only like one or two in our area, where about half the guests live, and absolutely zero in the area where others live. I liked the variety of things they had, but figured we should keep it easy. We went with Target, since we just wanted some kitchen stuff - no china or anything - and havne't had a single problem.
We also registered at REI, and this, for us, was a LOT more fun.
@ budgetbeautiful: haha, i could see how those constant coupon mailers could get quite obnxious... but, boy do i love them!
I voted Crate & Barrel and Macy's = great. Just because they had what I wanted. I didn't get much from Macy's, but I knew their stores are more widely available then C&B, at least where my guests are from.
I registered at BB&B, Crate & Barrel and Macys and had a great experience at all 3 places. Id say Crate & Barrel and BB&B were the easiest and most friendly to deal with, though I didnt have any problems with Macys either. Id register for one more place to give your guests more options. Maybe Macy's since its a large department store found all over (or other branches of it)
We registered at BBB and Target.
The only problem that we've run into with Target is that when you make a return with a gift reciept they will only give you the money on a giftcard... which is kind of a bummer when you're returning the extra kitchen aid mixer and could use the cash.
But, at least it's Target, that's one of the best places that I can think of to have a large giftcard for.
@ mroot: yeah, I wouldn't be too worried with having gift cards at target. It's the fact that you need a receipt to do even that that worries me. Don't many people who give gifts forget the gift receipt?
we registered at bed bath & beyond and crate & barrel. we love bed bath & beyond. plus they have the best return policy ever! we are very happy with our choices.
We did C & B and BB & B and were very happy with both, no complaints here!
i had a good experience with BB&B, an ok experience (satisfactory,m not phenomenal) with WS, and TERRIBLE experience with Macy's in two location (IL and CA), bad customer service and unavailabiltiy of items shortly after registering for them. Very frustrating!
We registered at W&S, BB&B, and Macy's and had great experiences with all of them!!
Also, FYI, you can use W&S gift cards at Pottery Barn! I had no idea, and we got tons of them!

FI and I registered at Bed bath and Beyond yesterday and had a fantastic experience. After hearing so many horror stories about registering, I wanted to share our happy ending. I listed the top ten reasons why you should register at BB&B on my blog below. check it out!

also, we are wondering if we should register elsewhere or stick with our great BB&B registry alone. The poll will help me figure out which other stores have provided wonderful registering experiences. Please vote which places you registered and whether or not it was a good experience - feel free to share below!
