We're about to head over to our trusty Home Depot to register for our wedding.  I got Crate & Barrel, FI gets Home Depot.  I figure it's only fair (?) to give him what he wants since I'm getting what I like.  I'm curious what we'll end up registering for though... I mean we need a new leaf blower, lawn mower, supplies to build a shed... this should be interesting.

Anyone else register at a hardware store?  What'd you register for?  Did you get any of the gifts of did you mostly get gift cards?

We didn't so I can't answer the specific questions but we were going to if we had owned a house.  My husband stayed in school longer than expected though so we were still renting and didn't really need anything.  I love all of your suggestions though.  I would love to get someone something different like that and with the shed, it'll allow for a lot of price ranges so they can get as much as they can afford.

We didn't register there but this past summer, we went to a family wedding where the couple had registered for a ton of tools and home repair stuff at Sears.  Since I was also going to the bridal shower, I bought girly stuff for the shower (table linens) and then we bought the shop-vac they had registered for from Sears for the actual wedding. We saw them a few weeks after the wedding and it sounded like they had only received 4-5 things out of the 12 or so they registered for at Sears but hey, it still made the groom happy!

@KristenGotMarried:  I wasn't aware that Home Depot did wedding registries.  FI will be thrilled to hear it!  Do all of the HDs in Columbus have registries?  I looked online awhile back and it seemed that the one near us didn't support them.

I haven't registered yet...but am seriously thinking about it. I have basically all the kitchen stuff possible (I'm in my late 30s and love to cook, so have already collected everything and very good quality)...the only thing I don't have is good china, so will register for that. We are hoping to buy a housethis year, so good tools are much more needed than more towels or pots or pans

Yours does registries? I called ours and our local Lowes, and neither would do them. :(  No Ikea either. Sigh.

ETA: register for a nice grill! Also, if you have one of those teeny recycling bins, a dedicated bin is nice.

We did! Our local store only does an in store option, so it was kind of a pain. Most people got us girft cards to home depot, which was great!

We registered at Sears and got all of our items (probably about 10 total). Several people bought me more "girly" things for my showers and then some of the nice tools (like a power drill and bit set) for our wedding gift. Every time we get a Sears box, my husband got so excited. It was cute.

We also got a couple of gift cards, which is always helpful!

A friend of mine registered at Menard's because she and her fiance worked there (actually how they met!). I believe a lot of them just do local ones so I wouldn't do it for that reason. If I did register at a store like that, I'd definitely figure out what tools we didn't have and may need at some point in the future. Also I know Menard's sells small appliances (I think HD does too?). My fiance works at one and we have some of their small appliances - they work great!

Just an FYI, you have to register instore so if you register at store A and someone goes to store b they will not see your registry or be able to mark items they bought for you. If you do decide to do Home Depot then make sure your guests no which exact store you used.

UPDATE:  We went to Home Depot and hated the way they set up their registry - and yeah they don't share it system-wide so it's only that store that has our info.  Plus they handed us a stack of xerox'd papers and told us to just 'write everything down' that we wanted.  We didn't enjoy that experience at all.

So we went to Menard's and had the time of our lives!!!  They had the scan gun and that made it so much easier.  We registered for all kinds of things (mostly stuff for him like tools and what nto, but he'll use them to build stuff for US, so whatever).  Menard's is absolutely our new favorite place, I'm honestly not sure why we chose Home Depot from the beginning.  We're both in our early 30s and have been living together for 2 years, so we don't really need the homey stuff.  This was perfect.  :)

And then an hour later I went wild at Crate & Barrel, so I still got my fix too.  We're both winners.  ha

Anyway, highly recommed Menard's!!  Go there if you can!

We registered at Sears and it was mostly "his" registry. There were a few things that were for both of us. No news yet on if we got anything (haven't had any showers or the wedding yet, obviously.) He registered for a lawn mower, grill, tools, leaf blower, all kind of car fixing things - he works on them, we figured his friends and some of his family would enjoy getting him stuff like that. It's stuff they know he'll use on a pretty much daily basis and he needs. Tools can get expensive! So we figured if I get to make the house pretty, he can make the garage useful and "cool." Lol. We'll see what we end up getting. :)

We registered for 9 boxes of ceramic tile for a backsplash.  I'm going to lol pretty hard if we end up getting those at my shower or on our gift table at the wedding.  Also:  3 six-panel doors, a few large tools, and a giant hammock (which I secretly really hope to find on our table), and a ton of other things FI will go wild over.  I'm excited :)

@kristengettingmarried: I had a very similar experience to you at home depot, and it was AWFUL!! I came on this thread to tell you not even to waste your time; i'm sorry i didn't catch you sooner. It was so bad, I wrote to corporate home depot and told them i would dissuade anyone i knew from registering there.

My store lied about registries all together, and when my now husband pulled up the fact that we could register on his iphone and showed it to the customer service person, they sheepishly double backed and apologized for being lazy. We were made to write down the #s of the stuff we wanted too, IF we wanted anything, and barely anyone there was able to set up a registry on-site because you couldn't even do it online. it was a mess.

We just registered for the tools and stuff at Sears, since they have the well-known craftsman line.
