I agree with the previous poster about the Rock n Play and A+A swaddle blankets! Sophie is nice too but DD isn’t too interested in her yet.

In addition, I love:

Oxo Perfect Pull wipes dispenser

BumGenius 4.0 diapers (if you’re interested in trying cloth)

Booginhead Pacigrip pacifier clips

Halo Sleepsack Swaddle – DD is almost 5 months and we transitioned her from the A+A swaddle blankets to these a few weeks ago. We wrap the swaddle panels around her belly so she feels snug but her arms are free

GroVia Magic Stick – it’s a diaper balm in stick form that goes on really easy and hasn’t caused any absorbancy issues with our cloth diapers. It also smells nice!

JJ Cole Satchel diaper bag – tons of pockets and room for everything

Boon Grass drying rack for bottles, etc.

Lamaze Freddie the Firefly – DD adores this toy! I hang it from her activity mat and she’ll play with it for 15 – 20 minutes at a time

Not a mom here but a frequent baby gift buyer – enough that I get freaking pampers coupons in the mail Undecided

Anyway, PP’s put out some faves already, aiden and anais, sophie, boppy, boongrass etc… Snugabunny seems to be a hot commodity, bumbo chairs and trays, and you definitely need a bouncy seat. In fact, you probably need a bouncy seat more than a swing, they all love the seat, but not all like swings. Something like these, I don’t know which is best or if it really even matters

Hmmmm what else… Have you picked a stroller?

Brestfriend breasting feeding pillow- loved this because you can bf with 0 or 1 hand. It fit better than the Boppy for us.

Woombie- I liked this better than swaddles because his hands could be together so he could soothe hismelf a bit while feeling swaddled.

Swing- any, but preferably one that goes back and forth and side to side, in case the baby prefers one over the other.

Carseat canopy- you might rather buy this though, since it’s usually “free” and you pay for shipping

Pack and play- whatever you like, we never used the newborn napper or the diaper change features, just used the 6 inch deep insert

A few fun toys that you probably wouldn’t buy yourself

@SaraP2012:  I never met a kid who didn’t love sophie. Something about the texture of the rubber, the holdability by little hands, and chewability.

You could register for a second base if you have two cars!

@SaraP2012:  Sophie is freaking awesome!  My son loved his Sophie for over a year.  The natural rubber/texture of her and her squeak.  This was taken when he first got her.

As for what to register for:  definately the halo sleep sacks/swaddle blankets.

Here’s a list I sent one of my good friends a few weeks ago with our favorites so far (DD is almost 4 months):

-Fisher price Rock n play- DD has slept in this since birth and it gets moved all around the house during the day for when we need to sit her down

-rainforest gym- she loves the colors and music and lights.  they have different versions but get one with music and lights.  It keeps her occupied for hours!’ defer=’defer
-snug a bunny swing- great for naps
-Aden and Anais muslin swaddle blankets and burpy bibs- worth the extra $$$$. Get like a million of these.  And burp cloths and bibs.  We go through several a day sometimes.
-we got mostly 0-3 month clothes rather than newborn.  She outgrew Nb sizes so quickly and even when they fit they were harder to put on.  Slightly looser is better in my opinion.
-britax travel system- so easy to use.
-soft books that they can chew on and feel the pages- any books with textures are great too!
-a diaper bag that has backpack straps (like petunia pickle bottom).  I don’t have one and its on my birthday list.  Juggling baby and a big shoulder diaper bag isn’t too easy.  I went to a moms group the other day and they nearly all had the back pack / combo style.
– crib bedding – just get the fitted sheets.  We got a set that’s so pretty but baby can’t have the bumpers or blankets so it’s kind of pointless.
– sleep sacks!!  And the swaddle Sacks if you want to swaddle.  Much easier than using a swaddle blanket.  But don’t get too many.  DD didn’t like being swaddled very long because she likes sucking her thumbs.
-boppy pillow for nursing and propping baby up
-I’ve heard the Ergo is the best carrier.  We have a baby bjorn and a moby which she tolerates, but she just doesn’t really like being carried like that and only lasts like 1/2 hour in either of them.   Maybe she just isn’t into being carried though.
-Aden and anais security blanket / silkie.  My daughter loves grabbing blankets and they are small enough that she can’t get tangled up.  Plus they are breathable and have a silky edge that she loves to touch.

-Sophie!!!  We got the set with original Sophie and the Sophie teether and DD loves both.
-medela steam clean bags if you don’t have a bottle sanitizer.

If you’re going to use a babysitter, get a video monitor that you can connect online and use the app to check remotely.  This would be on my list.

My baby is 1 month today and so far these are what we use pretty much daily, what he likes so far … I’ll list things my other kids loved too that baby is too young to appreciate yet.

1.  Our swing.  OMG I LOVE this swing.  It is not a brand I am familiar with so not sure if regular stores like Babies r us would even carry it.  It’s a travel size swing, has a toy bar wit soft plush toys (elephants and a tree) and PLUGS INTO THE WALL.  I love that we don;t need batteries for this swing, which is a HUGE bonus.  Baby likes his swing too… some days its the only place he will nap so I get a few hours of free time to clean and cook.  The swing has 8 melodies and 5 swing speeds but for now, we use the lowest setting.  It just swings back and forth but those are the kind of swings my other kids used too… and since I baby uses tis swing every single day, I am so happy it plugs in to save on batteries.  I spent so much on batteries for my other kid’s swings.

2. Our bouncy seat.  It’s a Fisher Price brand.  It vibrates which baby likes BUT  he doesn’t play in it yet or chill in it.  He actually LOVES to sleep in it.

3. Our travel system.  So far, I love this system.  It’s Baby Trend expedition jogging stroller and carseat and base.  It has the huge bicycle tires that is great for all terrain roads and it is super easy to manuever, it just feels so light.  Plus I love the car seat.  Baby loves his carseat too.  Before we got the swing, when baby was a little fussy, dh would put him in the carseat and walk him around in the stroller and he’d instantly fall asleep.

4. Homedics travel sound spa.  Baby loves the soothing music.. it calms him down and puts him to sleep.  It also plays ocean, white noise and heartbeat.  I Love it.

5. Some sort of sleep sack.  I like mine.. it’s like a blanket sleeping bag.  Baby doesn’t like his hands swaddled so this works perfectly.  His hanads are free but he is nice and warm and can’t kick it off like he can wit other blankets.

Things baby is too young for that my other kids loved:

1. Baby toys… I have a Becca baby play mat set up for baby but he stares at the toys for like a minute or so and then is ready for me to pick him up.  My other kids loved their playmats so when baby gets a little older, I know he will love his too.  Also teethers (I have one you can put in the freezer).  Keys, links, etc…  and books (so far baby has 3 soft books that belonged to my other kids).

2.  Activity center.  We are searching for one right now but my other kids loved theirs so I am getting one for baby.  I know the jumperoos are popular but I tend to lean more to the traditional exersaucers.

3. Baby Carrier.  I have a Born brand that I have not opened yet but my other kids loved being carried so I am going to start carrying baby now that he is a month old… I get so much done around the house when I carry my kids because they loved being held but I could have both hands free to do stuff.  Plus it’s how I traveled when I have to take public transit and can’t bring my stroller.  I have and used the traditional front carriers… not much into the mobi or ergo or slings.

4. Bottle rack by Munchkin.  I have yet to use it yet but I love having a place to set all baby’s bottles and sippy cups… I am still just breastfeeding so have not used bottles yet (except for the bottle that came with the breastpump when I pumped that one time.)  I also have the Playtex drop in bottle with liners.  I have heard great things about these bottle so I am excited to try them.

5. A stroller/carseat blanket.  OMG such a must.  Just a blanket that’s big enough to throw over the carseat.  We put baby in his carseat in the house then throw our blanket over him to cover him up totally… when we go out it works by keeping strangers away and also by keeping the cold air out and keeping baby nice and warm.

I am sure i will add to this list once baby gets older and he is into more stuff.
