Registering for the same item at different stores?

Yes, and you can do it now to give more options on the Macy's registry. : (15 votes)

Yes, but you should wait until the last minute just for the completion benefits. : (2 votes)

I am registered at Williams Sonoma, Macy's, and Kohl's. With 10 days left, I've had a decent number of my items purchased.

My Macy's registry has been very popular, which makes sense because most gifts to date are from local showers, and Kohl's isn't huge here in California. I registered there largely because of our families back east. To date, only three items have been purchased from that registry, and two were by my mom because she had a coupon.

I would like to double register for a few items for two reasons:

    1) I really want these (new blender, vacuum, carpet steamer).

    2) I will buy them with gift cards or cash presents if no one buys them for me.

Right now, I have a small stack of Macy's gift cards, and no Kohl's gift cards. Both stores offer a completion discount. So, it would probably be easier to buy these items with gift cards for Macy's after the wedding, if need be.

There is always a chance I will get two blenders, but both stores have liberal return for credit policies.

Basically, may I double register for the same item? Can I do it now to give Macy's shoppers more options, or should I wait until the Friday before the wedding to just take advantage of the completion benefits later? Or not at all?

Ok I voted no before i read the post opps! Yes i say double register. Normally im not a fan but i think 10 days before the wedding people are not still buying gifts. Unless you invited LOTS of single men!

Rather than double registering, I'd just swap them from one to the other.  Macy's is big in the east as well (well, in my part of the east, at least!), so if anyone wants to get you items from there instead of Kohls, there's no problem.  I'll probably do that with our Target registry -- moving things to the Crate & Barrel registry because our guests seem to prefer it (which is fine by me!).

@mishelleez: I wish that was the same for me!  I'm at 10 days out from my wedding and 9 days out from my shower and almost nothing has been bought off of either of our registries!

I think it makes sense to double register for some things since Kohl's in not available locally.

It makes sense to double-register for some things you really, really want, just be prepared to return in case of duplicates!  I wish I had done this with a coffee maker, since I ended up not getting one.

Yea I'd just register at macys for it and take it off the kohls registry. why leave it on there? I actually just consolidated down to one registry (bed bath and beyond) because they have everything i want for the best price.

@Mrs.KMM:  I had similar worries -- had my shower a couple weeks ago and almost nothing had been bought off our registries.  It was weird!  Honestly though, a bunch of people bought items the day-of or day before, and we got a lot of non-registry gifts that, surprisingly, we loved!  Nothing off-the-wall or crazy (okay, one "not at all our style" gift), and we really felt so loved and cared for!  So, have faith, your guests will pull through! :)

    Thanks ladies!

I think I'll swap some things, and double register for a blender. Macy's has a really nice blender that is about $50 more than the one at Kohl's we like. I would be happy with the Kohl's blender, so either one would be awesome. Turns out Macy's doesn't have the Kohl's blender. I just really need a new blender (recently burned the motor out on my cheap-o one).

@BostonBrideToBe:  Well I hope that if people want to get FI and I a gift they actually stick to our registries.  We have almost none of the basics for a kitchen, bathroom, bedroom etc so we really NEED the things that are on our registry.  Hopefully everyone is just procrastinating.

@Mrs.KMM:  I bet they're just late purchasers!  Or maybe it means there will be lots of cards with cash at your wedding, which you can just turn around and use for household items.  I'll cross my fingers for you! :)

I voted to go ahead and do it, but honestly if I were in your shoes, I would add it to Macy's and then remove it from Kohl's. Why leave it on there if there's lot of other stuff unbought?

I double registered!  Well actually triple registered (Target, Kohls, and Macys).  It really worked out fine.  After the wedding we had about 3-4 items to return to each store.  Some of that was stuff we decided we didn't need too.

I really don't think its a huge deal.  As long as the stuff is on your registry, all those places will accept the returns.

Don't register for multiple items unless you want and have the room for multiple vacuums, toasters, etc. People register at 2 or more stores all the time but they don't register for the same items at all the stores.

Also, never assume that people will give you cash.

@Selene221: Um, thanks? But being that I am nine days from my wedding, I'm pretty familiar with the gifts people have been sending me.
